It's kind of boring here in Nebraska, what with our Republican-controlled state legislature and a Republican governor.
Nebraska, just like other states, has been hit hard by the 0bameconomy, and the state was looking at a $100 million shortfall in revenues this year. (As small as Nebraska is, one assumes $100 million dollars here is like one or two billion dollars in larger states.)
Everybody stepped up to the plate to make cuts, and we're getting not only not increased taxes, but even minor tax-cuts, such as they are.....after more than ten years of constant tax-cuts, some of them substantial.
To this, I credit term limits; Nebraska isn't a machine-operated state, and politicians are elected to serve part-time, not to make a career out of it. This constant infusion of new blood into the state legislature (other state offices have long been term-limited) avoids the breeding of sacred cows, as no one's around long enough to raise one from a calf.
Collective bargaining for state employees is going out the window this year, but it must be pointed out that Nebraska state employees tend to pay more for their benefits, than do state employees in other states.
No demonstrations, no strikes, no violence, no name-calling.
It's kind of boring here in Nebraska, with our Republican-controlled state legislature and a Republican governor.
Shove that up your rectal aperture and smoke it, Don NNNLH01.
