Cops Ticket British Mom for Letting Son, 14, Babysit His Pre-K Brother

http://www.parentdish.com/2011/02/15/mom-punished-for-l... /

"Lovely. A mom in England was ticketed for "cruelty" for leaving her 14-year-old son in charge of his 3-year-old brother for half an hour while she went out shopping.

Well, they don't call it a "ticket" in England, they call it a "caution" -- but forget semantics. The fact is, by allowing her teen to babysit for less than an hour, the mom lost her job as a health care assistant, because now her record shows her "committing an act of cruelty on a child or young person."

...

What, exactly, is so cruel about letting your teenage son act responsibly? What is so cruel about showing him that you believe in him, and that you like the young man he's becoming?

And what is so cruel about letting your younger son be cared for by his older brother? Is anyone in the English establishment aware that many of today's parents were themselves babysitters at age 11 or 12?

..."

Only one reply so far. I'm waiting to see if they blame conservatives for this one.

1. Huh?

I was babysitting by the age of 12. This is ridiculous!

The DUmmies want a nanny state to run their lives, yet when they see the extremes that it gets taken to, they don't like it. Stooooopid DUmmies, be careful what you wish for.

I'd have to think there is more to this story than what is bein' presented.
I'm the guy your mother warned you about!

Yeah, there has to be more to this story.  In the US we wouldn't bat an eye at a normal 14 year old babysitting a 3 year old.  I'm suspecting the 3 year old was injured through neglect.

Although there was no “incident” and they were not believed to be in danger, the mother was cautioned by officers for “committing an act of cruelty on a child or young person.”

Wow.  When I was fourteen, I babysat regularly, including for a family with four kids ranging from 6 months to 8 years.

I await the link to how this is BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH's fault.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

Teenager's wouldn't have to babysit their younger siblings if Bush didn't create such an AWFUL economy!

When the comet hits the Earth it wil be GWB's fault.

For a communist democrat there is nothing bad that is not his fault.

Many here in Ga are already pregnant (or have a child) by 14.
“Don’t vote for the person who tells you you deserve something. Just don’t do it if it’s something other than life, liberty, or the pursuit of possible happiness. If everyone is telling you you deserve something, vote for the one who is promising you the least. Be suspicious of the man or woman who tell you deserve everything. Because you don’t.” ---Mike Rowe

Hell, my parents left me and my siblings alone all the damn time when I was eight! They made sure they put the fear of God in us before they left. Of course they were only goin' out to eat, or down to the local bowling alley, but we did just fine! I should add, when I was eight, I had older sibs around 11 and 12. With my step sibs and us we totaled 9.

Of course nowadays the gubmint is supposed to take care of ya, so I guess, there's no excuse for this mom.

My maternal grandmother died when I was 10.  My mother took our 6 year old brother with her to Austria. My 8 year old brother and I took care of the kennel, the house (kinda), and each other while my dad worked...he was gone from 6 AM to about 8 PM on short days.  We had neighbors stop by about once a day to check on us,  Mom was gone for 2 weeks.

With my own kids, I had them all babysitting before 14.  My oldest was only 8 when he was responsible for getting his 6 year old sister the 15 blocks to school and back every day...and they were home alone for almost an hour after school.

It's no wonder kids today are completely unprepared for being parents, keeping jobs, or being useful.  It's almost against the law to raise them to be self-sufficient and responsible.

Whadda ya mean almost? The gubmint leeches have ta account for their time some how! They once took my daughter outa my house after I knocked my son's hat off once! She made the mistake of tellin' her math teacher, who I had already had a run around with since I could put him to shame, and the asshole called HHS on us. It took me three days and the threat of a lawsuit before they backed off! I made the mistake of tellin' this guy he was fulla shit once, and he decided to give us hell!

He no longer teaches kids! I made sure by the end of it all he lost his job! It was either that, or they were gonna owe me a pile 'o money! Idaho is a "Right to Work" State! **** a bunch of unions!
