I know.  My dream as a young girl was to own one.  Two weeks after I actually got one, I gave up.  Of course, I was married with a baby and another on the way, so all that horse shit made me sick, literally.  Hubby helped out some, but he did have a job and we had to stable the horse elsewhere.

I had horses from the time I was 10 until I was 17 and left for the Navy. I liked them. But, like I said, they are expensive to feed and vet bills aren't cheap and lots of grooming a stall cleaning. Then there's loading up bales of hay and stacking them in the barn for winter. I could throw a 40 lb bale 8-10 ft in the air when I was 17 (was stacking them in the barn) and then tote 200 lbs of feed at one time.

Dogs do take more work and patience.  Cats are mellow guys and gals.  And they never stink. :cheersmate:

Lolz, you need to tell that to our cat Diva. She is rather old............

Her nickname is "Scrubs".

I subtracted my vote,* and went for cats. I truly love both dogs and cats; but, because cats were my first pets as a child and teenager and for no other reason, really, they have a little special place in my heart all their own labeled "cats," whereas dogs and cats have to share the other, main space.

Here are my two:

Macy

Bailey

I love dogs just as much as cats. I'm too lazy to have one in an apartment with no yard.

Hmm, well, I stand by my statement, in general.  Cats do tend to smell better, but of course as they age...or are ill.
Diva said to get back to work cleaning her up. :-)

Hmmm, let me think...What eats pandas?
I don't think any domestic animal does that.  Why do you have a beef with pandas anyway? :???:They can't help being born Chinese.

Time to get an Iron horse.

As to the poll, I opt for Dogs. Indifferent about the rest of the critters.

I'm sending mah kittehs to your house tonight.  See how "indifferent" you are then, sir! :rotf:

I can't choose between dogs and cats.  I love them both.   :cheersmate:
I know, I do as well.  OTOH, cats cost less money cuz they never need a groomer and they potty train themselves.  My daughter's grown mini doxen still pees on her carpet on an almost daily basis.  Of course, being in an apartment, she doesn't always take her outdoors, BUT, any time that menace on four legs shows up at my house she takes a dump on my carpets, RIGHT AFTER being brought back inside.  Maybe doxens are just overly stupid dogs, cuz I have never encountered another breed like this, refusing to be potty trained.  Wasted dog obedience classes, that's for sure.
OK, so I love the little mutt.  She's cute, gregarious, loving, but she is going to cost my daughter the money to replace the carpet when she moves out.

I am an unabashed bird guy, mostly parrots. We have two at home - a Congo African grey, and a Solomon Islands eclectus - both female.

There is no question that parrots are highly intelligent and social, curious about their environment and how to interact with it.

Mrs E calls me a "bird whisperer" because I understand them and what they're after - especially when they're being a PITA.

Mrs E cannot handle the eclectus safely - the bird is bonded to me and does not tolerate "other women" very well.  :rotf: But both birds readily go to me and look to me for that human interaction they're after. Mrs E? Not so much, though the grey tolerates her pretty well.

We also have two dogs, and they are special in their own way - but I'm an unabashed bird guy.

Poor starving bird.  No wonder she supervises dinner prep every night.  You've got her eating your instrument. :-)

Yes, but of course when you have them, you love them dearly.  Pretty much like children. :-)

No cows, pigs, chickens, etc?
I didn't even think of farm animals. :thatsright:  OTOH, no one is selecting the gerbil category.  Guess I need to track down Richard Gere and have him register here.
And yeah, I know it's supposed to be an urban legend.  It's funny anyway.
