It took me awhile, but I finally got to:

40 lbs. weight loss to date.

That is just terrifically awesome!!!

Even though I don't give out BS...I did give you one, cause I know that's what you would prefer.  :(
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

Weight loss to date:

45 lbs.

An interesting thing has developed. As has already been mentioned, one of the problems with low-carb diets is the body, after awhile, recognizes that condition and begins to slow metabolism.

I believe this was happening to me, especially a month or so ago, when my weight loss slowed to a crawl. As I was simultaneously monitoring my blood pressure, my BP was uncharacteristically low (around 115 systolic) when my metabolism was slowing.

While this is pseudo-science at best, it seems to be telling the story. My BP is up around 130 to 135 and with that comes the weight loss.

In order to keep my metabolism in a somewhat higher gear, I needed to (and began to) eat more carbs than I had. While I generally still stay away from pasta, I'll eat some potatoes and even indulge in ice cream once in awhile.

What I'm learning for me is, in order to keep the weight dropping, I need to reduce carb intake in the late afternoon and especially evening. Keeping to the protein and veggie thing for dinner is working very well, while I can afford to indulge my sweet tooth in the late morning/afternoon.

Lucky you and congratulations on a well fought battle.

My problem is when I eat a meal, I fall asleep an hour later and perhaps 6 hours goes by before I wake up.

It is back to the Asian diet for me, brown rice, vegetables and a bit of meat any kind except dog or cat.

Why on a rice diet do the Asians stay so thin, only when they eat a American diet do they get diabetes, gall stones and stomach ulcers ??  it seems that carbohydrates make up 80% of their diet and they stay slim and trim.

In South America where a diet is full of hot peppers ulcers are almost unknown.   Corn, beans some squash, tomatoes etc with hot sauce and rice seems to keep them healthy.

I have had a very high metabolism all my life, A real meat and potato girl that loves butter, cream, and fat.

Most I ever weighed was 120 pounds and that was at 9 months pregnant.   Same today so I question why I who still love the same food now needs to track down why I get that groggy feeling that one gets after a huge turkey dinner.

For Inga, why when I get heart burn will a table spoon of Apple cider vinegar take away the problem in 15 minutes.??

Weight loss to date: 50.2 lbs.

Maybe the stomach virus I had yesterday had something to do with the 3.5 lbs. I lost in less than 24 hours.  :p

My little granddaughter - she's 18 mos old - was in the hospital last week (week ago) from Thursday to Saturday, getting fluids pumped into her, because she got so dehydrated with her 4th bout of the so-called "current" stomach bug, in 5 weeks. Chjldren's sent her home, after running a bunch of different tests on her (salmonella, e-coli, etc) to determine it was the stomach bug that was going around.

She was supposed to go back to the pediatrician on Friday for follow-up. After 2 days of calling parents to come pick her up at school, I stayed with her on Thursday and Friday. M and I took her to the pediatrician on Thursday - (same practice my kids went to, but I was not impressed with this one  :(  )...her little tush looked like she had been scalded and she was not better. So my daughter called and SIL was going to leave work and take Madelyn, which I said was crazy, we could take her. We did, and I asked the dr if a particular test had been run, (my daughter said to ask) and the dr said "no, we don't run that one, unless we know the child has been exposed to the bacteria, because it can give a false positive"...I said ok. And dr gave me some medicine for Miss M's tush, and said keep her on the restricted diet, this bug lasts about 5-7 days. ( Uh...dumb ass....she's been sick for over a week! ) Sent us on our merry way, (Miss M finally quit screaming like we were murdering her!), told us she'd be fine in a couple of days.

When my SIL got home, he was furious that they didn't test her (I had to take in a poop sample that the dr didn't even look at!!!). Since he works in a trauma unit, and my daughter works in a walk in clinic, both are exposed to this bacteria all the time. He said the dr should have realized that! (She even knew J was at work because I called her while the dr was in the room with us, and we had to wait while J finished taking an x-ray). J told me the next morning, when I got there, that SIL sort of lost his temper with Children's and the pediatrician...he apparently called them after we left.

She was doing better Saturday night when we saw them. And she, and her big brother, are with their other Grandma(SIL's mom) today and tomorrow. Then on Wed they head to Nebraska for 5 days. At least out there, if Miss M gets sick again, God forbid!....my ex can test her at his office.  :(

She's lost at least 3 pounds...which is a lot for a little 22 pound body.

FWIW, Euph....she's only to eat oatmeal, soda crackers or "goldfish", popsicles, regular yogurt - preferably without fruit, gatorade, pedialite. Absolutely no milk products, or fruit of any kind, and nothing with excess or extra sugar. No toast, no meat, no cereal, no jello. Nothing else until her system seems back to normal.

You might want to try her diet....particularly the gatorade. It's a really bad thing to get dehydrated.

She's a smart little thing...she figured out if it went in...it was really bad coming back out. She's just like her mother! She was the same way...I think the 3rd time we had to hit the ER for IV fluids, when J was in HS or college, because she gotten a stomach "bug" and refused to put anything into her body....M and I threatened her with she would be the one paying the ER bill the next time it happened.  :thatsright:

Sorry to hear about Miss M, Deb; it sounds like she's had a very tough row to hoe.

Went to work this morning, feeling like dogshit, and would've come home again if one of my guys hadn't called in sick. Was actually feeling better as the morning went on, but I went home after a conference call, about 11:30.

Ate no breakfast. But was feeling good enough to tackle part of the mowing that simply had to get done.

Big mistake. Feeling pretty woozy right now. Drank plenty of water, though I need to drink more. You're right about the hydration thing.

Whatever it was, it was just a 24 hr. thing. I'll be okay if I just lay back and take it easy for a day or two and get plenty of liquids.

Mods, if this thing starts sounding like "Cryin' in my Beer," please go ahead and move the thread over there.....

I read all eleven pages.

I've lost 42 pounds since Feb. and I don't diet. I eat whatever I want, except for salt.  That's now a no no.

If I had not had kidney stones I'd still be where I was, hurting and gaining weight.

I drink a gallon of water everyday, two glasses of lemonade and an orange juice sometimes.  That is for no stone formation.

It's not as easy as it sounds.  I had to force myself to do it for my kidneys. After a month, it became a habit.

The first surprise was I wasn't hungry anymore. The second surprise was how much energy I had. The third surprise was intestinal.  Yes, a minimum of 4 maybe 5 times a day.  Shocking for me. I move around a lot more, I feel better.

Yes I do urinate a lot but it's a small price to pay for clean kidneys.  I don't drink coffee or sodas, I eat whatever just not a lot of processed foods. I gave up chips and other junk years ago. I cook everyday during the week.  My husband cooks on weekends.

You have to train yourself.  It's hard especially if you're not a big water drinker but I swear the toxins leave your body and the cravings you may have for certain things go with it.  I had triple fudge cake yesterday, a small slice, haven't touch it since.  I don't want it.

I eat 3 times a day especially breakfast. You need that fuel to start your day. I carry my 8oz. cup with me or a bottle water wherever I go.  I rarely finish the food on my plate. I don't feel hungry all day.

I am over 50 and I thought my skinny days were over. I thought I would fight my weight until I died.  I ate my way through menopause.  It was hateful.   :-)

I don't have high blood pressure and my heart is still going strong. I take only vitamins, no prescription medication.

It's nothing that will kill me, nothing I have to prepare and it's available wherever I go.

That is the best part.

My urologist told me she was jealous.   :-)

That's a great accounting, shadeaux, and well done! Training myself to drink a lot more water than I had been drinking (but nowhere near what you're doing) was tough enough -- I can't imagine doubling that quantity. I drink a lot in the morning, but then taper off as the day moves on. But now that summer is here, I suppose I've gotta ramp up.

I'm with you on the energy bit -- I have a LOT more than I had. I attribute quite a bit of that to the exercise I'm getting. But I do rebel at the steady diet of veggies and fish/chicken and sometimes stray (  :whistling: ) from that when Mrs E ain't looking.

I have a sweet tooth, and that part hits me hard, but I think I've crossed a bridge of sorts. Chomping on peanuts and chocolate nauseates me now -- I hope that keeps up.

A little. Ate a little salad and chicken last night and some Greek yogurt this morning.

Bowel trouble still continues, however.  :shucks:

That's Miss M's problem too. Maybe try her diet?

Salad is hard on the intestinal tract. Greek yogurt is mild, but it's dairy and gives more fuel to bacteria.

Well, I eliminated the extra fiber I'd been putting in the yogurt, but I think I negated that with some of those enzymes and some other kind of pill that Mrs E forces me to take at gunpoint -- the enzymes help the digestion process.  :whatever:

Like I need help with that right now?  :lmao:

This will settle down. But I will make some adjustments.

The good news is, weight keeps dropping (little wonder, really).

I see some clear soup in my future...and thanks for your recommendations.

Don't dehydrate.   :-)

You're doing well so far.  Damn virus.  Good luck on the rest.  I know it's hard but the benefits are worth the effort.

It hits you like a ton of bricks when you realize what you've chosen may be for life.  It is for me.  Meh, it's worth the sacrifice.
