« on: February 11, 2011, 01:06:20 PM »
AP article from local paper.

Seriously?  :banghead:  They just raised personal income and corporate taxes by 66%. Are they trying to drive jobs out of the state?  :censored: DemonRats.

I read an article (about a year ago?) about a developer working on a NYC shopping center.  It would have a lot of fun things to do in there, and make a lot of jobs of the mall-type variety.  These would be in the $8.65 range.  The city council put the kibosh on it, saying the wages must be at least $10.  Development group balked, and the project was cancelled.

D-bag on the city council sniffed, "it's better to have no job at all than one that pays less than $10."

I hate democrats.

It's really irritating that the DemonRats never realize that they hurt the ones they are trying to help by raising minimum wage.  They drive the cost up, so that companies will only hire people with work experience and maturity. Who wants to pay $10/hr. for some clown flipping burgers or mopping floors?

You're not suppose to live off of minimum wage forever.  You're suppose to go work at BK on minimum wage for a month or so, get a raise, and a promotion a few months later.  And then move on to a job that pays more with better benefits!  Why do people only want to make MINIMUM wage and then expect the MINIMUM wage to be raised when they can no longer live on $250 a week?

They haven't stopped cheering about the 66% tax increase in Illinois  yet.

Because that is about as much motivation as your going to get out of them and they are not worth the wage they get as it is.

As union scale is tied directly to minimum wage, it becomes pretty obvious what this is intended to do.  Besides of course giving a larger base number for the thugs in Illinois gub'mint to draw their cut from, of course.

My first job, after my paper route, paid me $5.15 an hour.  That was as a cashier (17 years old) at Burger King.  I soon got promoted to shift manager (at 18) once I moved to Madison.  They paid me $8.25/hr for that position.  This was in 2001.  Ten years later, I believe the minimum wage is $7.25/hr in Wisconsin.  Possibly more.  I know minimum wage in Nevada is $8.25/hr.

I would really love to know how many people and businesses move out of Illinois as a result of this.

Raising minimum wage during an economic dip with unemployment as it is now is just about the most counter productive thing you can possibly do.

Actually, raising taxes is worse.  And the 'Rats have done that to the tune of several hundred BILLION over the next several years.

Sounds like a great way to reduce the total number of minimum wage workers by about a quarter.
