Virginia Democrat Webb to Retire from Senate After One Term

(excerpt)

First-term Democratic Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia will retire when his term ends next year.

Webb made his announcement in an e-mail, saying, "After much thought and consideration I have decided to return to the private sector, where I have spent most of my professional life..."

Webb's decision leaves Democrats with the daunting prospect of finding a viable candidate to run in what will be a very hot senate race in the Old Dominion. On the Republican side, former Virginia Governor and Sen. George Allen has already announced his intentions to recapture the seat Webb took away from him in 2006 in a razor-thin victory.

And so it begins...the Rats leaving what they know will be a sinking ship in 2012....

6 years under a Democrat super majority was more than plenty of time to feather his nest in the "private sector".

Maybe he can go back to writing pedo/homoerotic novels.

Stay away from it, George.  You lost because of a piss poor campaign and your time is done.

Seems like the Dems are cutting and running. They are not manning up to face the voters.  :-)

Does he get the usual government retirement/healthcare package?

But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

I may be wrong, but I don't believe he does after just one term......if memory serves, it requires two.

His wife is from Vung Tau, Vietnam. That's a lovely, lovely city on the South China Sea, near Saigon.
It would not surprise me at all to see them retire there.

Five years is the magic number.  Meaning as a Senator, when he reaches the age of 62 he can draw benefits after just one term.

I disagree completely! Allen is a stand up guy! If it hadn't been for the left wing media makin' a big deal out of a word most Americans had never heard of, including him, he'd of smoked this guy!

I consider him my favorite to run against Lord Zero in 2012! He has a better platform than any who have put their iron in the fire, including Palin, IMHO!

Al, he never put up a fight to that; at least not a credible or forceful one.

I say he stays away from it and lets someone like Cuccinelli run instead.

He didn't put up a fight because he had no chance against the MSM who made  "Macaca" a bad word to the American people before they even knew what the **** it meant.

If anyone doesn't believe the MSM is in the side pocket of the DemonRats, this instance is all you need to research!

I'm willin' to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. He was, or could have been, a Presidential contender before the MSM pulled their political assassination bull shit!

When did we start lettin' the media choose our candidates? Talk about under handed, dirty pool politics! Same thing happened in Virginia when Huckster and McLame got together in or to screw Romney.

Unfortunately, we have allowed the Media to sway opposition to certain candidates they do not want in the race! I am embarassed for Conservatives that only watch the alphabet network!

ETA:

Al, he never put up a fight to that; at least not a credible or forceful one.

I say he stays away from it and lets someone like Cuccinelli run instead.

And he could have combated the smear the MSM gave him how?

Seein' as how the MSM treats Cuccinelli like the plague, just how do ya expect the voting block to know who the hell he is?

I never heard of him until you mentioned him. There are many, many, more that will never see the light of day! Good men and women that because they won't play ball with the MSM, they will never get face time. I wish it were another way, but those are the facts of life at this time, my friend.
