He is railing on about the unions being the cause of every financial woe facing the states -- plus SS and Medicare. Chris points out that Texas has NO UNIONS, yet is in the top five states in fiscal trouble. It's a cyclical economic downturn, not a crash due to unions who simply want the benefits for which they have a contract. Joe insisted Texas wasn't in trouble...but finally had to give and gasp in amazement when his producer whispered in his ear that TX was indeed in trouble. He was shocked...even Old Pat agreed with Chris, but Joe said it couldn't be true because he keeps hearing such great things about Texas. Totally blew the wind out of his sails, and destroyed his argument that all states' economic problems are the result of unions. Oh, and SS and Medicare.

In an ideal situation - i.e. one where I wasn't prohibited by city ordinance from keeping "livestock" (leastwise, unless I'm speaking Spanish, that is) - I'd have dozens of the little bastards.  They're a great source of nitrates.

Already phoned my supervisor who happens to be a leftist reconquistador backed by the SEIU.  I rarely get calls back from his staff. Doubt I will this time. At least our paper is on it, not that it matters to our rulers.
