House seen blocking healthcare funds

The U.S. House of Representatives is likely to vote to block funding for President Barack Obama's signature healthcare overhaul when it takes up a budget plan next week, House Republican Leader Eric Cantor said on Tuesday.

House Republicans aim to pass a spending measure next week that would immediately cut at least $32 billion from the government's $3.7 trillion budget in an effort to trim budget deficits that could hit an estimated $1.5 trillion this year.

Details of the Republican spending-cut package will be made public on Thursday ahead of a wide-ranging debate on the House floor next week.

Cantor's office said the language blocking funding for the healthcare law is expected to be offered as an amendment during the House debate next week. Republicans, trying to make good on a campaign pledge for a more open legislative process, plan to debate a number of amendments to the spending bill.

This is the positive change that the Tea Party is bringing.  I like it--a lot.  The House Republicans are having to actually do something.  Is it enough?  Absolutely not.  But, it's a start.  The "nose of the camel is in the (big) tent."

Well, it's a place to start, but cutting 0.9% (rounded) of a $3,700,000,000,000 budget is chump change.

Yeah, I gotcha, but I'm looking forward to the day when REAL PORK gets cut - not just this $32B, but real, honest-to-God wasteful spending.

Let me remain wistful. Or downright impatient, either one works for me.  :censored:

Yeah. Like HUD. Or the Department of Commerce. Department of Energy. And Napolitano simply needs to recognize that she's in waaaay over her head, step down, and refuse to accept whatever salary she's collected since she's started ****ing over DHS.  :loser:

Reid and senate will block it. Osama's last line of defense. which means in 012 we clean house, eh senate there as well. including the WH.
