Long Beach Tells Teens To Pick Up Saggy Pants
Call for 'respect' during Black History Month
February 3, 2011 12:17 PM

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2011/02/03/long-beach-tells-teens-to-pick-up-saggy-pants/

LONG BEACH (CBS) — City leaders want young people in Long Beach to do two things this February: pick ‘em up and keep ‘em up.

Bishop William Ervin along with Carson City Councilman Mike Gipson are calling on black children and teens to “pull up their pants on their waist” as a sign of respect during Black History Month.

Ron Kilgore reports their message to young men who wear their pants down around their knees is simple: “You can have the swag without the sag”.

Community leaders say the plan is not just for cultural purposes, but may have legal benefits as well: sagging pants are often used for profiling purposes by law enforcement agencies.

Plus you look like a fool with your pants on the ground!
"Liberalism is an essentially feminine, submissive world view. Perhaps a better adjective than feminine is infantile. It is the world view of men who do not have the moral toughness, the spiritual strength to stand up and do single combat with life, who cannot adjust to the reality that the world is not a huge, pink-and-blue, padded nursery in which the lions lie down with the lambs and everyone lives happily ever after."

What I find interesting is my black friends all think the pants on the ground look is ignorant.

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

I learned today that the sagging came from prison.  Either prisoners were issued ill fitting prison garb or the saggy butt signals to another inmate that the buttdiner is open :lmao:

I look at it this way, those baggy saggy pants aid in crime fighting .   Have you ever seen those idiots try and run from the cops?

Well we have just gone into the year of the Rabbit in Asia and what not.----Can anyone tell me why rabbits feet are suppose to bring good luck, and has anyone seen those key chains they once made with a real rabbits foot.?

:Lao: :Lao:, One year at the malls they sold some kind of tails, most likely dog tails on key chains, made in china.  Very fluffy and about 14 inches long.  Cheap about $5.00 each and I bought a bunch to affix to my motorcycle jacket. This was the only year I ever saw them sold.   Couple of years went by and I dug the jacket out of the back of my closet and as it was a winter riding jacket I wore it to work one cold day.      I had a few inquires by management and coworkers where I had gotten the tails----Looked them all right in the eye and told them ""ROAD KILL."    Those darn idiots believed me as occasionally some hunter will put a raccoon tail on their trucks antenna.

Now that I think about it in Texas I have seen cow skulls used as a hood ornament, long horn steers horns on the roofs and in Tenn. a neighbor of mine had a long horn Goat skull tied to the grill of his truck.

Now about those pants that boys and men wear with the crotch 3-4 inches below their junk and their skivies showing,  It is one thing for a 70 year old man to feel comfortable in huge pants but for a teen or man in his 20-50's it makes me laugh.    As ZZ Top would say, " ALL THE GIRLS GO CRAZY FOR A WELL DRESSED MAN"

Saggy britches = goofiness.

A friend's daughter sent her son to spend the summer with him because he was started to run with thugs in their area of CA.  I had three teen daughters, they had many friends and our ranch was where a lot of b-ball and outdoor activities happened.  The kid started hanging with mine and after two weeks he was in Wranglers.  Said he couldn't get through barbed wire fences and keep up with the other kids in his saggies.

Now, if I could just market that experience.

I have pre-threatened my 10yr old son that if I EVAH caught him with his ass hanging out that I would embarrass him so bad in front of his friends.  My boy is going to be an Eagle Scout and that hip hop shit ain't gonna happen in my house. :argh:

I've been lucky so far myself. Mine has always liked his hair extremely short and his pants up somewhere near his waist. Being in a Cub Scout and Boy Scout Troop that has strict requirements on hair length, dress and manners helps....and AJROTC.

His AJROTC school unit isn't as strict as his Scout Troop....which brings up how slack that unit is. At 19:00 (7 pm.) last night they call wanting him to be part of the Color Guard for a basketball game because...get this... 1/2 of the color guard unit hadn't shown up(and didn't show up). One of the boys knew my sons phone # and that his Scout Troop has a flag ceremony at every meeting, so they called him. We live 10 miles out of town and the Colors were to be presented at 7:45 pm. Me, him and Momma were running around here like chickens with their heads cut off... shining brass, changing insignias and ribbons from Class B to Class A uniform, wiping shoes, driving like a wild man....had him there by 7:30 so they could run thru it one time before the game.
Then this morning we had to do all changing again back onto his Class B uniform so he could wear it to school today.

ETA: Son said the Major ran them thru how to do the presentation once and he thought it was wrong but didn't say anything. Then after the game he asked about it and the Major said he realized his mistake when they were leaving the gym. Son was carrying the state flag and he was in front of (leading) the U.S. flag. Should have been behind.

that is too bad, it can happen to anyone, it was observant of your son to realize his mistake and ask about it, it shows maturity.

The Webloes that are coming up this year will meet with the Boy Scouts this Monday night so they can see some of what they will be doing as Scouts. The ones that came up last year will be having their packs and gear checked for an upcoming mountain backpacking and camping weekend the end of February.

The ones from last year have been on a couple of backpacking trips last fall but no winter time events. Moms tend to pack their packs and Mom puts so much unnecessary stuff in their packs a mule couldn't carry them.

The troop does something at least one weekend a month with six of those being backpacking/camping weekends. The troop goes to Philmont every forth year year so this is to get them in shape and trail wise for their great adventure. Son went this past summer and he still gets excited talking about it.
