and being cautious getting out of iraq is the exact opposite of what The BarackStar! has been saying
himself; he makes it sound as though it will happen overnight.
and how can they talk about The BarackStar!'s legislative experience with a straight face? he was in the
senate for about 15 minutes before he started running for president.
Kerry stumps for Obama
Sen. John Kerry’s presence at the Warminster VFW on Saturday afternoon put at least one more voter in presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s camp.
“I came here undecided and I think I leave here decided,†Ellen Jarvis told a friendly audience of about 100.
Jarvis, a Warminster supervisor, entered politics to support Kerry’s presidential bid after her nephew developed post-traumatic stress disorder. The young man was stationed at the Pentagon on Sept. 11 and deployed early on to Iraq, where he saw a friend shot in the face.
“My nephew very rarely smiles anymore,†she said, “yet he still supports the war.â€
Kerry, who was joined by 8th District Congressman Patrick Murphy, talked up Obama’s positions on the war in Iraq and answered six questions.
One veteran said he came home from Desert Storm a patriotic American, but today he won’t even fly the flag.
“America’s not perfect,†Murphy told him. “We make mistakes… But we have a duty all of us to make it better.â€
“As a fellow Navy veteran,†Kerry added, “I think you are proud of your country. You’re not proud of this administration.â€
Twice Kerry repeated the campaign mantra that Obama will be as “careful getting out of Iraq as the Bush administration was careless getting in.â€
After the town hall-style event, Kerry said Obama would end the war, but didn’t give specifics.
“He’s going to get us out of there one way or another,†he said. “But I think he’s going to do that in a way, and this is important, that meets the security needs of our country and honors the sacrifice of our country.â€
Kerry’s stump speech touted other Obama endorsers — Ted Kennedy and a litany of red-state lawmakers — and made much of Obama’s leadership abilities despite his youth. He said Obama has more legislative experience than his rival New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, who has been up in the polls in Pennsylvania where she enjoys Gov. Ed Rendell’s staunch support.
He painted Obama as an underdog in the Keystone State, saying if “lightning strikes†and everyone gets their job done Obama could win the April 22 primary. Does he think it’s time for Clinton to bow out?
He said he wouldn’t tell her what to do.
“I totally respect her right to make her own decision,†he said after the event.
Kerry did, however, thank Pennsylvania for giving him primary and general election wins during his unsuccessful try for the White House.
“You did everything you could except move to Ohio — could have used a few of you there,†he joked.
One attendee waved a homemade Obama-Kerry ’08 sign, but Kerry said a vice-presidential bid isn’t in the cards.
“I don’t think it’s a possibility,†he said.
