After much thought, I am leaving the Democratic party

The decision is very hard for me, I have been a Democrat for 31 years. My core values no longer match those of the party, plain and simple. My core values have never changed, the party's have. It makes me very sad, but I realize it is time for me to go. I still plan to vote for Obama and Democrats in 2012.

I am an unabashed liberal. As of late, liberals and the left are derided by many in the Democratic party as extremist, or even pathetic. This is a disturbing, frightening turn in my view. On the political scale, liberalism to the immediate left of the political center. We are in a two party system, and in a two party system, there is no center. only a left and a right. I will never, ever, move to the right, ever, but my party has, and it makes me so very sad.

The Democratic Underground is first and foremost DEMOCRATIC. Where the party goes, so must go the DU. I fully understand why, and I believe it is necessary and support the DU's reasoning in doing so. Otherwise the Democratic Underground is just the Underground. I hold no grudges against the DU. The DU is, and has always been, an invaluable resource for me. I am no pied piper, this decision is a highly personal one.

I have been posting with this account for nine years, and have been coming here for ten years. I will no longer be posting on this account. I do not regret my time here as niceypoo, but niceypoo was a Democrat and I am no longer. Sometime soon I will create a new account and begin posting here as a liberal independent.

Admins if you decide to delete my account all I ask is that you leave it up for a few more days so I can check my messages a few more times. I am bouncing around South America as I type this, and it is sometimes hard to get to the internet.

Peace, love, out

-Niceypoo

12. Niceypoo, Not Sure Why The Need For A Name Change...

I've been reading, lurking and posting to Democratic Underground since 2002. I make no secret that I'm not, nor ever have been registered to any political party.

I landed here because I thought, and still think, that this site is more about Democracy than it is about the Democratic Party.

Whether you change your DU handle, or not, be aware that there are many of us here, and in the wider world, who are liberal independents. Welcome!

Cheers, Tace

Enjoy your stay.

It must suck to have to tow the line to remain on a website, (I know it's toe but I saw a DUmmy say tow the line once).

I may not lock my doors while sitting at a red light and a black man is near, but I sure as hell grab on tight to my wallet when any democrats are close by.

DU needs to start a "Good-by cruel world" section.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

The state of public education in this country is appalling:  apparently they don't even teach young dipshits the difference between left and right anymore.  :thatsright:

"Tow the Line" would be somewhat correct, if the butt-munch were pulling a barge.

But, y'know, they "feel" it's right.

That is so goofy, announcing you're going to change your name and start posting as a "liberal independent."  Attention whore.  Just keep your name and say your piece, whatever that may be.  This would be like me going:

ANNOUNCEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

I, Karin, having once been a Republican TeaPartier, have now decided I am a Constitutional Conservative.  Therefore, I will be changing my name, not telling you what it is, and then begin posting under my new philosophy.  That. Is. All.

At any rate, I think in that thread, Skins informed the DUchebag that only one account per computer is allowed.

As a Constitutional Conservative, will you back Newt in his quest? Will you support his future endorsements of the Scozzafava's of the party?

Newt as President makes my skin crawl. Any man that can serve his first wife divorce papers on her death bed, while he's banging his second, now ex-wife, is nothing less than a John Edwards in my eyes.

NOTHING makes my skin crawl more than ANY democrat in the White House, along with the hundreds of judges and regulators he'll appoint, who will affect our lives and our kids' lives for decades. Presidents come and go, but their appointees stay with us for life. Folks need to consider that before they refuse to vote for the Republican nominee, because refusal to vote Republican has the same effect as a democrat vote.

That would be the only way I'd vote for him, but only because I know what the alternative is.

David Souter was appointed by G H W Bush

Anthony Kennedy was appointed by R Reagan

Vaughn R. Walker. who threw out the gay marriage ban in CA was initially nominated by R Reagan. That fell through and was renominated by G H W Bush.

I know these are but a few, but voting for a big tent conservative doesn't guarantee anything. If it came down to a old time GOP and obama, I'd hold my nose and vote for the GOP. Up until the time he is nominated, I'll work to get a true conservative on the ballot.

If it came down to a NE Republican and obama, I wouldn't vote for the first time in my life.

Enough is enough. Let's hit bottom and start the country over. We're entitled to a do over. Hell Japan has had one and Germany had two.

There I'm a republican from the NE. There are a couple I'd be willing to vote for. With Gingrich, it isn't so much a conservative thing with me as it is a a character thing. He's an opportunist. He's a bit oily. He doesn't have strong principles. I don't mind disagreeing with someone as long as he has firm, honorable principles. I don't see that in Gingrich. He's a hell of a writer, though.
