Do you have too much of anything?
« on: February 01, 2011, 02:15:37 PM »
I'm not a hoarder, but on a UK site I am following along a challenge to use up toiletries before buying more. Some people have huge amounts of make up/creams etc, my weakness is moisturisers. I easily have enough to last a year or more. While doing that challenge it occurred to me that I have too much stationery too so I'm determined to use that up before I buy more.

So, is there anything that you can't resist and end up having more than you can reasonably use?

Creams and make-up also. I'm always buying more and keeping what I have. I should take a pic of my make-up cabinet in the bedroom and the cabinets in the bathroom.

Glad it's not just me. Do you save stuff because it's too good to use? I did and now I'm making an effort to use it before it goes off and the money's wasted.

Yes, 'splodey moisturiser, it's a killer.   No I mean when it goes out of date, some toiletries do have use by dates and most have a limited shelf life once opened.

Throw pillows.  It's a sickness. I have different ones for different seasons.  And scarves.  My friends knit, so I have lots of lovely ones, but it rarely gets cold enough to use them.  This week I will though.

Hmm, there's no way of using them up is there. You'll just have to get creative about using them all year round.

The excuses I use are "it costs so much so I can't throw it out" and "what if I throw out this eye shadow then all of a sudden I could use that color".

Have you ever actually had an eye shadow emergency?  :-)

Umm, no :lmao:. The only good thing is since I'm organized I have a very nice make-up area and my lotions are neatly stored. :-)

Single earrings, the junk kind and I loose one I keep it just in case I find the mate. -----Books, I need a wall to ceiling book case to hold them all.   Cords that plug into no longer owed appliances, or electric tools.

I gots too many kittehs.  Not a thing I can do about it though.  My husband is a real bleeding heart when it comes to strays.  Every one had a sad tale, and one was a girl in trouble.  So we made a house for Wayward Single Girls.  Everyone's getting fixed of course.

Earrings I can understand, it would be annoying to find the lost one having thrown the other one away. I disguise my book addiction by having bookshelves in every room.   :-)

That's me. I was so proud of myself: I had to replace my electric knife and actually threw out the cord with the broken knife. LOL

I'm pretty good about getting rid of makeup ever since I got an eye infection and the dr told me that it was a good possibility that I got it from my makeup.  If I don't use it up by the 3 month mark, in the trash it goes.

I had a ridiculous amount of makeup and toiletries when I moved back in September. Loaded them all, then sorted them out when I got here....filled up 3 trash bags, and still have plenty. But it is sooooo organized now!! I'm using stuff I have and only replacing something if I don't have something already to replace it.

Exception is lipsticks and eye shadow. I'm trying to stop buying Clinique and switch to "drugstore"...kind of hard when I can't "test" the color.  :(

Had the same problem with cleaning supplies, pantry stuff, and stuff in the deep freezer.  I have been really good on those since we moved. Amazing what organization and getting all "likes" into one place.  :whistling:

Lipstick prices have gotten so outrageous that I'm starting to buy more Wet N Wild colors, they go anywhere from 99 cents to $1.19, and yes I have to apply it more but I also have to apply the name brands a lot too.

I have alot of magazines. Mostly Gun and model building magazines now days. I use them for researching stuff for when I build models or learning about guns and to drool over the ones I can't get. I'm about to get rid if some of the old gun mags as soon as the weather lets up and I can get them to the recycling center.

I keep forgetting I have certain items out in the shed, and go buy more.

Yesterday, when I heard about the big storm coming this week, it occurred to me that I have a little propane heater out there.  Not enough to heat the house, or even a room, to comfort, but it does take the edge off (we lost power on a winter's night two years ago).

But,

I thought I used all my propane with the campstove this past summer.  So I went to the store for some supplemental groceries, and propane.  I cam back with two four-packs (the little disposable bottles).  Then I went to the shed for the heater--

--and found two four-packs in there.

So, I have 16 little bottles of propane.  Theoretically, things could get so bad I'd have to use them. I hope not.

OTOH, I hope I remember not to buy propane for the next six or eight camping trips....

Just a hint for you Bally, I worked for a company in Ten. that made everything from Wet and Wild to Avon.    The only makeup that is bacteria free is Avon, we did not make Clinquet [ Sp?? ]  Separate rooms and we had to wear face masks paper head covers and gloves.

The other brands, name brand were in some cases made with the very same ingredients just the label was changed.  Like in the food industry name brand is exactly like store brands, just a label change. -- for them we had to wear the head coverings but no gloves or face masks.

If you wonder why you get the Flu, someone may have sneezed on cheap cosmetics, or even high end cosmetics produced in an environment is not well controlled.

Interesting business cosmetics, the amount of lead in some of them is small but the build up after years of use is something to be aware of.    The bright colors will have more lead and the wearing life of a color is determined by the amount of lead in the product.

BTW when you buy paint that says lead free, there is no such thing, they found there may be more lead in paint for a crib then on the walls.

At least this was true 5-10 years ago, things change but I wonder if  the chemical used instead of lead is any safer.
