Klein: "easier to prosecute a capital punishment case than terminate an incompetent teacher"

<skip>

Mr Klein said one of the lessons he had learned was that there was a need for "reasonable processes" to be in place to terminate the employment of under-performing teachers.

"Every child is entitled to a good teacher," he said.

"It's easier to prosecute a capital punishment case in the US than terminate an incompetent teacher."

2. Conclusion: It's much too easy for prosecutors to kill people. End the death penalty!

Thank you, Mr. Klein.

The New York Post is pretty favorable to Joe Klein.  I've read the hoops that Klein has had to jump through to get rid of incompetent teachers, and he's dead on when he mentions that this has to be done.  'Course, Randi Weingarten, as head of the teachers' union in NYC, has thrown up roadblock after roadblock in his path.  But, lately there's been some "rebel" teachers who have said that the unions don't speak for them, since the interests of the unions are put over the interests of the kids they're trying to teach.

I wonder why she is so afraid?

From her perspective, only the names have been changed to protect the innocent incompetent.  It's like being Nebukenezzar, and seeing the finger of God write your epitaph on the wall of your palace.

Terminating a teacher for cause in most states makes Federal civil service labor law look like at-will employment.  I have about twenty years of experience doing public-sector labor law, by the way.

Assuming some teachers actually wants to teach, such unions don't even act within the teachers' best interest. It's all about union funds and political power.
According to the Bible, "know" means "yes."

Wonder if any of the DUmmies caught Stossel's "Cut the Deficit" show last night?

Gettin' completely rid of the DOE was right up there on the list!

ETA:

Since the ****in' thing has existed, we have spent more per child than any other country ans test scores have flat lined since the 70's while the rest the world passed us right by! The difference? Other countries don't have a DOE and leave it to the parents to decide where their kids go to school!

That's why I love the charter we are sending the kids to - The teachers have one year contracts. If they suck, they are gone.

If the gubmint would let lousy schools fail, we could raise the national average of education in this country ten fold in 2 years! teachers would be overwhelmed at first, but we'd weed the lazy sumbitches out real quick and replace them with what we used to have in this country! Teachers that actually wanted to teach and weren't worried about how many bennies or bonuses they were "entitled" to!

I swear nowadays it seems the first thing a teacher looks for is "what's in it for me"!

prosecute...persecute...I think the DUmmie gets them confused.
