Report: George W. Bush aides violated Hatch Act

During the 2006 midterm elections, White House political aides to President George W. Bush engaged in widespread violations of a federal law which limits partisan political activity by government employees, a long-running federal investigation has found.

A 118-page report issued Monday by the little-known Office of Special Counsel cites numerous violations of the Hatch Act by staffers in the White House Office of Political Affairs. The report concludes that federal taxpayers footed the bill for improper activities that were intended to advance Republican political candidates.

An Obama White House spokesman had no immediate comment on whether officials there were aware that the new report was about to be released or on whether it influenced their decision to close the office

OSC investigators are some of the biggest dumbshits I have ever dealt with, most of them do not understand the laws they try to apply and decide what they're going to prove before they take any evidence.  While I'm sure a report issued at this high a level got a lot more effort than most of their work, I have no confidence in their product.  And 2006?  Who gives a rat's ass now, five years later?
