The Assassination Attempt You Have Not Heard Of

Posted by Erick Erickson
Monday, January 24th at 5:00AM EST

The American Thinker brings us word of an attempted assassination you probably have never heard of.

It happened in September of 2010 in Missouri. A 22 year old named Casey Brezik, wearing a bullet proof vest, charged toward Missouri’s Democratic Governor Jay Nixon with a knife and attempted to slash his throat.

In light of the media’s race to talk about the right’s climate of hateful rhetoric, you have probably guessed by now that Casey Brezik was an anti-Christian, anti-capitalist leftist who participated in a number of leftwing protests. He was also a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic.

Luckily for all involved, Brezik was high on pot at the time and got confused. Instead of slashing the Governor’s throat, he slashed the throat of a community college dean he took for the Governor.

<snip>

Seems to be a rash of this lately.  Must be all that "hateful, right-wing rhetoric" out there on the ether...

I had no words to express earlier, so I just shared it on Facebook.

The 'high on pot' part just killed me... because yes, let's legalize it so we have more idiots like this running around killing people.  Makes total sense.  I'm just tired of people saying that being under the influence of marijuana does not affect your brain.  Really?

September 2010: Why An Assasination Attempt Goes Unreported

Looks like a lot of us missed that one, Chris...  :(

That was the point. This story was mostly ignored by the media except locally. I do seem to remember a couple of blogs covering it, though.

It was practically ignored when it occurred.  The blog I linked to was the only mention of the incident I ever saw other than one or two local papers that ran a single story, and I had to go looking for those.

Glenn Beck was just speaking about this incident on the TV. He said he had just found out about this today, too. WE need to be more on the ball and NEED to start holding the media accountable for their silence on these types of issues.

Huffpo had a story about it.

I had read that the HuffPo left out any mention of the guy's political affiliations. Turns out that he was a leftist.

RedState mentions this: http://www.redstate.com/erick/2011/01/24/the-assassination-attempt-you-have-not-heard-of/

Come on, guys...everyone "knows" that any actual hatred and violence must come from the right.  Just ask any DUmmy.   ::) ::) ::)  It doesn't matter if the guy has voted and run as a Democrat for decades (like Fred Phelps) or writes long screeds about 9/11 and hating Bush... or even if they have "Socialist" as part of their party name.  Thankfully (or whatever) our media is so far left, they actually buy this lunacy.   :argh:

It IS absurd to state that it does not affect your brain.  That's just maddening to hear that some people hold that view.  Granted, mere pot does not turn someone into a raving killer like the notion that the statement "he was high on pot" implies.  Granted, if it was laced with other drugs, those drugs very well could.

And yet I've got one of my leftist FB/high school friends trying to push the "violent right-winger" meme by pointing to Crooks and Liars.  I asked her if the website refers to the editorial staff.  She was not amused.

(For my CC FB friends, look at my post yesterday about "global warming" and you'll see her.  Totally unhinged.)

I've never understood the extreme political ranting on FB.  Everyone has friends, family, and/or coworkers from different spectrums of ideology.  It just seems to be a strange choice to bring majorly decisive issues up for rants.

Side note:  I hope the weathers been kinder to you.  I'm attempting to process oil in a 64 year old, 50 MVA transformer.  Scouring for vacuum leaks on top of it at 3am, with a -8 wind chill is a lot of fun!

Not to mention you have to treat that oil as positive for PCB's in a transformer that old.

Whee.

Thor, you cannot tell me you believe this about Glen Beck and his million dollar research assistants did not pick up on this 20 minutes after it happend.  Beck has been sitting on this story for some time until his researches got all they could about it.   Beck was just waiting for the right time to publish their findings.

Beck is not a one man machine, so far there is little to find fault with as he backs his storeys to the hilt.  This man has better advisers the Obama ever did.    I like his show very interesting and informative, but Beck himself has done little research on the subject of the day, it is the crew behind him that do so, where would he find the time to read all the books he claims to have read when he is so involved with his program and making 2-3 guest appearances on other shows every few days?

Beck has one heck of an intelligence gathering pool, Obama should take a page from The Book of Beck and get on the ball here.
