Saturday I had these Trader Joe's Korean short ribs...

...and they were DELICIOUS. They're precooked and then flash frozen. You submerge the package in cold water for, oh, half an hour to thaw (the package reads 15 minutes, but I gave it a bit longer), then just place them on a preheated skillet and cook for about 5 minutes on each side. Package reads 2-3 minutes but I like my ribs a little more burnt. They taste fresh and the seasoning is AWESOME.

Nine bucks. I think there were 10 ribs, so it works out to less than $1/rib.

Grilling would be better but it was way too cold for that and I don't ahve one of those indoor grill thingies. It was still uber-delicious.

I thought I'd mention these mainly because the Super Bowl is coming up and these could be GREAT Super Bowl food for a party for you football fans--incredibly easy to make and unusually good.

I also recommend the tempura chicken, as the blogger here did. But steer clear of the mandarin orange chicken he mentioned--it's as crappy as the teriyaki chicken he labeled "gross." The chicken used in the tempura chicken is definitely of higher quality than that in the other two.

But those ribs? mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I recommend this as a great accompaniment to the ribs, if you get them--Trader Joe's Frozen Garlic Naan bread.

It is GREAT. Has a bit of a tangy oniony/leeky taste, not too garlicky. Run the toaster oven once with nothing in it (to preheat), then pop the naan in for a second round of toasting/warming for about 2 minutes. Great as a hearty side to the ribs and to sop up some of the leftover rib marinade.

You could get the frozen jasmine rice as an accompaniment, and it's also super-easy to make (3 minutes in the microwave and that's it), but I generally like bread more than rice and a stack of semi-toasted bread is really more "Super-Bowly," anyway.

Those do sound good. Not too expensive and easy to make too. :cheersmate:

We don't have a Trader Joe's..... :bawl: :bawl: :bawl:
Just hand over the chocolate...back away slowly...far away....and you won't get hurt....

Save the Earth... it's the only planet with chocolate.

"My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what I start. So far I've finished two bags of M&M's and a chocolate cake. I feel better already." – Dave Barry

A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands.

Sorry Deb. I see that Knoxville is very far from Nashville (where there is a Trader Joe's). But, on the other hand, you DO live in TN, and I DO live in NY--NYC--so who should be crying more? Thought I'd cheer you up with that.  :cheersmate:
