Arizona's African Lion Tacos
« on: January 20, 2011, 07:38:32 AM »
Quote
In the six months since it launched Exotic Taco Wednesdays, Boca Tacos y Tequila has served up python, alligator, elk, kangaroo and rattlesnake.

Frog legs, turtle, duck and Rocky Mountain oysters have also made appearances.

"We've done just about anything we can get our hands on," said owner Bryan Mazon. "Every Wednesday we do something a little bit different."

Last week he announced on Boca's Facebook page that the UA-area taco shop was accepting prepaid orders for African lion, to be served on Feb. 16. Orders must be placed by 3 p.m. Feb. 7.

Better we eat the lions before they eat us.
I have to wonder how many unsuspecting diners go in ordering Rocky Mountain oysters expecting seafood. :rotf:

I don't know--have you ever eaten the flesh of a mammalian carnivore? I haven't--surely it tastes different from flesh flavored by herbivory and omnivory. Anyone ever try eating big cat or some other carnivore mammal? Bears are omnivores (except for polar bears), so they wouldn't count.

Say, don't you have a migraine?    :whatever:

Never ate anything like that before.  I would try it.  I've had rattlesnake.

No migraine anymore.  Guess it decided to go away early.  It was right above my left eye.  :(

Good, glad it subsided.

Never had rattler, but I've heard it's pretty good. I'd try that any time.

My Dad said he ate snake in the Vietnam boonies out on patrol once.  Claimed it tasted like chicken.

Not sure about eating a carnivore. I have had bear meat and it was actually good. It was in chili.

I had black bear stroganoff once and it was very good.
In fairness they are omnivores and probably actually in reality closer to herbivores.

I would try it.  I would eat just about any mammal.

Reminds me of the movie The Freshman with Marlon Brando and Matthew Broderick, invited guests paying $100,000 per plate of a Komodo Dragon and it turns out the guests are just eating chicken:
