DixieBelle being a friendly reminder
« on: January 18, 2011, 08:56:23 PM »
Loosen up and listen, folks.

This is from our head bossette, DixieBelle, and it's a good thing to read.

Thank you for your attention.

- - - - -

I would just like to take a moment to highlight some of the “rules of the road” for Conservative Cave. Please take a moment to re-visit the Board Rules Section again if you haven’t in a while. Due to several public events in the media (Copyright Lawsuits, etc…) it was necessary to refine and refresh our rules.

The Board Rules

Let me clarify that Conservative Cave has not been made party to any lawsuit. We are just exercising an abundance of caution to prevent that from happening. A Fair Use Notice is posted on the bottom of the forum page as well.

There are a few other key elements that I would like to remind everyone about as well.

Those of you who have been here since the dinosaur age should know the rules inside and out. We expect you to conform to a higher standard as a result. Not only is hospitality important when interacting with newcomers but setting an example for proper forum behavior is your responsibility. Think of any new members as you would a guest in your own home. Treat them nicely and be a kind host. Now, if someone decides to track mud in our house, we have an awesome Mod Squad that specializes in housekeeping. Let us take care of any messes and don't make any on your own.

And for those of you who are new to The Cave, Welcome! We're glad you're here! It's a good idea to read all of the forum rules first and make sure you know the "rules of the road" at The Cave before diving in. Please familiarize yourself with the "vibe" and drop by the non-political forums to kick back and get to know our members. We hope that you feel greeted warmly and enjoy our hospitality. If not, please let us know immediately.  Likewise we expect our older members to stop by and say "hello" to the new folks. Get to know each other! Have fun.

On to a couple more Housekeeping Topics:

We live in a 24/7 Instant New Media world. As everyone knows, events are reported as they happen and often incorrectly. Due to the fast and blurry nature of these reports, let me kindly remind all of you to excersice caution when sharing information. Not just in what you post as source material but also what you choose to share about yourself.

This website is indexed by all major search engines and the public is able to view our topics (with the exception of certain restricted areas) by simply doing a key word search. Please refrain from comments that could be interpreted as encouraging harm towards ANY individual. We’re not setting up speech codes but merely remining you of the rules already in place. Think twice; post once. Mods have final say on what is appropriate.

Please also consider before you share any personal information either voluntarily or by request. We have a great group of folks here at CC and nothing has happened to make me question that. I just want everyone to keep in mind that we have grown quite a bit since our beginning and have gained a following. The new traffic and increase in members is great! Please remember to sit up straight and say please and thank you though.

Your safety and enjoyment is the primary concern and if you have any questions, please send a PM to the Management Team.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I'm quite a bit littler than Hoss Cartwright, though, madam; in fact, the way things are going, I might make Little Joe Cartwright look like Fat Che or the cross-eyed Iowa primitive.

I'll leave it to you mods to knock me down when I need it. I don't mince words, and if I get to far outa line just let me know and I will tone it down some, Emphasis on the "some". I have no sympathy for the left and if my language or my demeanor is now too profane for the site, I will voluntarily go elsewhere. I will always consider this my home. I can follow without commenting if need be, but I am what I am.

I love you guys, but if the site is gettin' to large and you get complaints about my language or the jest of my comments, just let me know. The last thing I want is to bring any shame to this site!

I will say as an Administrator that last week caught many of us off guard.  We were not prepared for what unfolded while many of us were carrying out our daily lives and taking care of our families.  What happened last week should not have taken place.  We are, as a group, trying to give everyone as much room as possible to express themselves and not act like the neighborhood Stazi, but there have to be some limits.  We've bumped into this before but never to this extent.  We have grown as a forum and we have to be prepared to move from being a small, comfortable place to being a larger one with some new people bumping elbows and pushing for space.  We had 44 new members sign up this month... that is almost twice what we had in November and close to surpassing December and it's not even the third week yet.

This forum will grow and it will get larger.  I just hope that everyone can step back and take a look at the bigger picture.  We are somewhere between #3 and #6th place on Google for conservative forums and new members will continue to join us.  I just hope that you are willing to welcome them here as you have been long-term members that have been here from the beginning.

Of course.

That the Die alte Sau is a hateful old bitch is undeniably accurate, and thus reasonable.

Plus the examples you cited, sir.

The problem was in using terms that stereotype a large group of people, rather than individuals.

Uh huh; totally agree.

Absolutely.

New members need to be treated with at least causal respect, unless and until they show themselves to be someone other than those committed to decent and civilized values and attitudes.

But not until then.

Newbies aren't a problem as long as they realize who we are. The last thing we need is to start being something we weren't to begin with, and transform into what they are.

The reason I'm here is because I can speak my mind without being run off because what I say is not politically correct. FR has that problem occasionally and is the reason I seldom go back there.

We're not sheep. The First Amendment is what it is here, and I hope it stays that way.

If ya can't stand the heat, maybe you should show up in someone else's kitchen. I'm pretty damn proud of this place and how we do business. It shouldn't have to change just because we attract more members. If it gets to hot for some, then I suggest they aren't in the right place to begin with.

The whole idea is like minded individuals, emphasis on "individuals", is it not?

But nothing's changed, sir.

But alas there have been some, uh, lapses, when it comes to newcomers, lapses in giving one a chance.

It's basically a reminder that it's better to watch a while, before passing judgement.

No sir, it had 99% to do with denigrating whole groups of people.

Carry on.  You do good.

I guess my hillbilly roots may make me a bit slow at times, but I am still at a bit of a loss.

I slogged through two very painful and lllooonnnggg threads (ie the 41 pager in Politics and the 18 pager in Mind Numbing Stupidity) and have apparently reached a different conclusion regarding the admonishing of long term members and the treatment of new members.  To wit:

1.  Minuteman09 starts a typical, seen-it-all-before, Ronbot 100%er thread.

2.  Trip jumps in, defends him, gets butt-hurt at being called a "noob", and commences preaching down his nose at us.  Nevermind the fact that he comes off as someone who thinks waayyy too much of himself and struts around with an undeserved arrogance as some kind of Constitutional expert.

3.  LGS comes in and actively provokes a fight in the shoutbox.  No matter how you slice it or how much she doesn't want conservatives to fight with each other, she came in with a chip on her shoulder and very quickly replaced it with her ass.

4.  H minus commences to throwing a fit about the H5/Bitchslap function.

5.  There is complaining about more senior members inviting/encouraging the new group to leave if they don't like what they see here; not an unreasonable invitation and one that has been used many times in the past.

6.  Finally, to top it all off, there is an admonition to senior members of the Cave to treat others nicely until they prove they aren't "bona fide".  Considering what I've read, it didn't take them long to earn whatever scorn they got heaped upon them.

I know everyone here remembers the history of how the Cave came to be, I know no one wants to see that happen again, I know that the site needs to attract new members (many of which have joined up and become great additions), but really?

Someone walks in the door, starts finger-painting the walls with their feces, and we're supposed to play nice?

Or do I just not get it?
I don't want...anybody else

I think ya got it just fine Wasp! I think it's just one of those touchy feely things in order to tell Noobs that our bark is worse than our bite.

As far as I'm concerned, nuttin's changed that I can see. It was just a reminder to not act like DUmmies. Somethin' we never need to be told anyway, but it might make the "probies" feel a little better and become a little more comfortable.

Just sayin'...........

added by franksolich: for some reason, I'm not being allowed to "reply" on this thread, and so I have to ride piggyback on Allosaurus; sorry about that, but there's no way me to reply.  I dunno why.

Anyway, wasp69, sir, you did get it.  You gave the newbies a chance, which is what we want.

You do good work, sir; carry on.

I was absent when this controversy was going on; I don't know the specifics, but they didn't pertain to anything wasp69 or Allosaurus did.

And as Allosaurus said, really, nothing's changed; it was just thought a good idea to remind others of the generally-followed rules.

Frank - the topic has a lock on it.

Frank is right; it was just a friendly reminder. If you're playing by the rules then keep doing what you're doing. The Mod Team will handle anyone who wants to throw feces.
