Making new soap from old bars
« on: January 16, 2011, 08:28:42 PM »
Anybody tried it? I was thinking about taking all the little slivers of

old bars and putting them together to make one big bar out of them.

Kinda hate the thought of wasting them.

Is that going overboard? A bit too "frugal"?

I just stick the sliver of the old bar to the new bar in the shower, and it eventually gets used up.  I have melted old candles to make new ones though.

Thanks CR, yes I have done that a lot over the years. I was thinking about trying to mold a bunch of them together for a change.

Maybe put them into a microwavable container with a little water and "miking" it for short spurts until they soften up a lot. Then maybe compress it into a mold ... maybe an old plastic soap case ... if I can find one. You know ... the ones that came in two halves. One half, the top .. covered the bottom. Good for travel.

I dont know. I'd like to try something diff than the old tried and true "sticking the slivers back onto the new bars". :)

I use shower gel but that sounds like a great idea

No need to microwave them, just put them all in a mold with some water, let them soak for like 24 hours and mash them together.
