Peace Corps Gang Rape: Volunteer Says U.S. Agency Ignored Warnings

"More than 1,000 young American women have been raped or sexually assaulted in the last decade while serving as Peace Corps volunteers in foreign countries, an ABC News 20/20 investigation has found.

In some cases, victims say, the Peace Corps has ignored safety concerns and later tried to blame the women who were raped for bringing on the attacks."

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions; no, let's not focus our efforts on cleaning up the USA, let's not send the help to places like Australia or Eastern Europe, where it might actually be appreciated - let's go to a third-world hell hole that is in the shape it's in precisely because the colonists that made Haiti beautiful once upon a time (and would have eventually seen to it being able to rebound from an earthquake) were murdered and expelled.

Buddy of mine (huge lib since we were in HS) was a Peace Corps volunteer.  He ain't gonna like this.

I considered the Peace Corp at one time, but because I speak French I would almost certainly have been sent to Africa, and considering the number of women who are raped there, I wasn't willing to take the risk.  My brother is considering it when he graduates college, and he speaks French as well, but he is also 6'2" and built like a linebacker, so I don't think the risk will be quite as high for him
