Separation of Church and State?

Interesting. I haven't seen this fact mentioned anywhere.

Last night’s memorial at the University of Arizona appeared to be the Un-memorial Memorial. I’ll leave political commentary to others.   Instead, I want to look at the spirituality of the moment.  Last night we may have witnessed the 21st Century’s first spiritual gathering in which our political leaders become High Priests too.  There were no Jewish rabbis or Catholic and Christian clergy who represented the faiths of those who actually died or were terribly maimed.   Instead, the University of Arizona offered up secular political leaders to serve as our spiritual leaders.  They were the ones who were  there to salve our wounds.  They were the ones to quote from the Old and New Testaments, to cite from proverbs, psalms and other scriptures.  We witnessed a national secular religious event.  If that sounds  like a contradiction in terms, welcome to the New World of religious secularism.  We may be seeing the “new normal” of  a religious ethos being born before our very eyes:   Government becomes the new church.

It’s possible these ruminations may someday be seen as quaint, as  someone from an older generation who recalls the experience of traditional memorial services.  For the young people who  filled the sports stadium, it was a moment for cheers, whistles and wild applause.   There were signs of discomfort from the older audience members including President Obama.   This seemed to be theater, a show arranged by a Dr. Robert Shelton, a scientist and the university president who seemed to enjoy serving as Master of Ceremonies.

Well, we couldn't go offending ReichsMessiah Barry's tender sensibilities.  Since offering prayers and supplications on behalf of the fallen to "Teh Won" would have offended those right-wing, counterrevolutionary backwoods hicks in Arizona, we'll just hope nobody notices that we didn't offer prayers and supplications to ANYBODY'S deity of choice.

WOW! I was wondering why there were no Religious leaders there but I never made the analogy pajamasmedia made and it was excellent!

They had a guy there that was Mexican and the crowd went nuts when he mentioned that he was of Mexican descent. WTF?! Was does that have to do with the shooting? :???: (I did not watch it, I just heard the snip-its from the Savage show.)

You got that right NHSparky.  The State wants to be the highest authority, so that we cannot claim Rights which the State cannot touch.

This is why we need to claim our Right to unalienalbe Liberty which precludes Government from FORCING one person helping another, either directly or via Taxes and Government Hndouts.

A little off topic here, but I've noticed a racist type of pride when it comes to Mexicans. There was a young lady on a Chopped repeat last night that was all about her Mexican heritage, insinuating that she was better than the rest of us because she was Mexican. Her story was that she grew up in the Barrios of LA and escaped to NYC. (Big difference?? Doubtful)

Which is a huge problem, people self-identifying themselves by ethnicity before identifying themselves as Americans.

Since the crowd was probably almost all-White or otherwise entirely White, I'm sure the crowd somehow thought there was something special in having someone "of color" at an event where mostly White people were.

White guilt is strong, and Whites have been conditioned to do just about anything to have "I'm not a racist" carved on our tombstones. That means if a non-White so much as shows up, that person becomes an instant VIP so Whites can show off how non-racist and accepting and "tolerant" everyone is.

Obama wouldn't have been elected president were it not for such thinking, I believe ::)

I wonder if it has dawned on her that the langauge of mexico is European, as are most of the people decendents of said europe.

I didn't see it live, but I did sit through all 33 minutes of barry's nonsense just so i could see for myself after hearing it was bad.

I was astounded by him both pausing for appluase and at times leading it.

It was like watching mental patients scripting a funeral event.
