When I was 5 or 6, we were living in Sioux Falls SD. I went down the street to my friend's house to see if she could come out and play in the snow. While I was waiting for them to answer the door, I licked the snow off of the decorative metal grill on the screen door.

Yep, my tongue got stuck. I grabbed it with my little mittened hand, left the outer layer of my tongue, and ran home crying with blood running all down the front of me. My mother, the nurse, took care of me...while my dad told me how stupid I was.  :bawl:

It doesn't get that cold around here, but I saw 'A Christmas Story' and was forewarned long before I ever had the urge to lick a metal lightpole.

My little sister did something like that while we were waiting for the school bus in Indiana one morning.  She was blowing on the catch to the mailbox trying to thaw it and got just a weeee bit too close, I think it was actually her lip that was stuck.  I don't remember exactly how we got her loose, I do remember helping though.

I always told my son never to try the tongue and pole thing here in Texas in the winter.Do you think he listened,not this one. He did it to the clothes line pole. I was in the house,and heard a yelling. When I came outside and seen him, I died funny. He was crying so I went to get some warm water. I got to say I told you so. He never did it again. But he enticed friends. They only seem to learn from experience.

Poor kid now there are some adults I would like to push into a frozen pole just so I wouldn't have to hear their voice but that is another topic LOL
