Let me tell you what the other side of the REAL coin is
 Just read an op. Some guy that someone knew turned down a contract job to keep his UI.

What a scumbag!
What a creep!
What an ingrate!


Okay...with that out of our system...let's look at the reality. The first question I have...in that job, what happens if the person takes the CONTRACT job and makes less money and then is laid off--his UI will reflect THOSE benefits and he will lose money. My other question--when I have worked contract jobs--I wasn't eligible for UI. If this guy takes it and loses the job--he will most likely lose ALL of his benefits and the chances of finding a decent job these days and staying employed long enough to earn UI is a shaky proposition.

Yes, it makes a difference. IF the UI ended--then the contract job DOES seem the best option. But if the UI was extended--why not wait for something else that might possibly be better for him?

I was fired from my job for being sick.
I am a highly specialized professional. It's taken me YEARS to attain the level of skill and attain the certifications that I hold.
I made a very good salary with benefits.

The money that I get on unemployment is decent and I can pay my bills from it. It is right around $1800 month (I have very few bills).

There are NO similar jobs in the area that I live. To get the SAME job in my specialty I will have to drive ~350 miles round trip. When you factor in gas, hotels (as needed), new uniforms, time spent away from home--my take home pay drops around $1300 month (I can't pay my bills on that).

My other choice is to take a lesser skilled job with more physical demands and less pay.

I have a previously injured back--I can't do a lot of lifting anymore. I'm not about to sacrifice my back for a crap job because I learned after the first injury that Texas Workmen's Comp is one of the most crooked entities in the state and I am not about to fight THAT battle again.

I do search for jobs that I am qualified for. But I am NOT going to take a crap job for the sake of preventing someone else from sitting in judgment of me for not taking a job "they" think is appropriate for me.

First off just because it needs to be said...**** you,you worthless,steaming pile of shit.

Now then,if up to me and you refused to be a useful and contributing member of society (that is the basis of your beloved socialism isn`t it) I would have you removed from said society and forced to do something productive but probably not pleasant.

Translation:  I hated my Freeper boss, who wrote me up for campaigning on company time and screwing around on DU instead of working, and so I claimed mental/emotional stress was so bad it kept me from working anymore, then after a month or so of not showing up they fired me, but even the EEOC wasn't dumb enough to believe my bullshit attempt to make the company pay me for staying home the rest of my life.

Let's go with this to help people that refuse work.

Put me in charge ...

Put me in charge of food stamps. Id get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Hos, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing Id do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, well test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your home will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition you need to work for entitlements. You will either present a check stub from a job each week (and a drug test) or you will report to a government job (and take a drug test). It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, serve or cook soup in a soup kitchen or whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the common good.

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules.. Before you say that this would be demeaning and ruin their self-esteem, consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other peoples mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards people for continuing to make bad choices.

The funny thing about all this is I remember that the dumpmonkeys were all agog about how they couldn't find a job in the evil Bush economy.

A dumpmonkey named mrh or mrhr or some such comes to mind. He was supposedly a shit hot electrical engineer with 35 plus yrs experience down in Texas and complained that he had been unemployed for 5 years under the crappy Bush economy. This was circa 2005-06. I dunno what the unemployment rate was then but I know it was a heck of a lot less than it is now.

Stupid dumpmonkeys. You can't find a job when employers are begging for employees what makes you think you can get a job when things are tight?
