That's it, I'm gone
« on: December 29, 2010, 12:01:37 PM »
To California.  Headed out to the Rose Bowl to root on my Horned Frogs, so I'll be MIA for a few days around here.  If you're watching the game, I'll be the one in purple.  :-)

Happy New Year, hope everyone is safe & has fun!

Enjoy and have fun!

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

I have returned, although it took my voice until today to recover.  What an incredible experience.  Got to hang out with 25,000 or so fellow Frogs in Pasadena and LA, including around at least 100 friends from my era.

There were a couple of shots of my friends and I on TV, one local to LA & one nationally during the parade.

At about the 1:45 point of this video, a great friend of mine is interviewed and I'm in the background with the two TCU ladies:

We're still trying to track down the video from the parade.  Apparently while the TCU marching band came through the parade route, there was an 8-10 second tight shot of our section in the bleachers.  Within seconds of it airing, our phones were blowing up with text messages & calls to let us know.  A college friend was having a party nearby in Pasadena so we got to see it on the DVR.  Haven't been able to find the video online yet and also haven't had time to look yet.

Are you the one in the white hat or the one to the right with the two tone and the sunglasses?

Thought about you when we were watching the game, and knew you would be a happy camper with the win!! Saw the interviews with the coach and the two players. Those kids were really impressive, and their comments regarding the other team were a good example for any future players who may have been watching. Some current ones could learn from them!

Good to hear that you had a great time, and safe trip. Glad you are back home with us!!

I'm the one in the background in the white hat.  My friend was the one being interviewed.  They asked us who wanted to talk and we all suggested that he do it.  I would have needed more cocktails to sound intelligible.  :-)

And thanks Deb.  I was so proud of our team, and it was wonderful to have so many fans travel, especially since we're such a smaller school in comparison to Wisconsin.  I watched the game on my DVR last night, and was impressed that we were so loud.  It was obviously loud when I was there since I was surrounded in a sea of purple.  But it was definitely noticeable on TV.  No wonder I had no voice for the last two days.

One of my friends posted the video on Facebook and another friend who had to watch the game in Afghanistan replied: "Classic.  Elvis needs his glasses back though."  :lmao:

Oh, I am sure it was.  Everyone here was going crazy too!

I was living in Ft. Worth when the Cowboys won the Super Bowl in 1993 & 1994.  We drove to Dallas after the game was over just to party.  That was completely nuts.  I'm sure the TCU win wasn't quite on that level, but it had to be awfully close.

No, that's not me.  That guy is wearing what looks like a hooded sweatshirt with a pouch and I wasn't.

There was a LOT of purple around....not as much as the red but I think we represented pretty well.

Great game! And to think, Gary Patterson managed to do it with the players that Texas, A&M, Tech, Oklahoma, and OSU decided they didn't want. That's good coaching right there........and Tank Carder is a BEAST!
