I don't get REALLY upset often...BUT

yesterday, Christmas Eve, a conversation took place in my presence which was just so awful, so gut-wrenchingly, head-shakingly, viscerally mangling, that even I, the cynic, can't really get past it. This comes on the heels of the conversation I had with the Teabagger which I posted the other day.

A young lady came to see me professionally - she's about 22 and extremely sweet and charming African-American gal, whom I've known since she was a toddler. One of my employees, also AA and who's been with me for over 20 years, said, "Merry Christmas" to the young lady on her way out. The patient replied, "You know I don't celebrate Christmas." Now I must add that many times, my staff have 'private' conversations with patients about personal matters or families which are connected in the neighborhood or church or whatever, so it did not surprise me that my staff member might know something which I did not. So my employee asked, "Are yo a Jehovah's Witness?" And the reply was, "No, I became a Muslim. My mother curses my religion." My staff member replied, "Well, I love your mother. You need to come back to Christianity. All roads lead to Jesus."

The young lady was a bit taken aback at this...so I leaned over to her when we were alone and said, "Don't you ever let anyone tell you what religion you 'need' to believe in. And I apologize if you're upset. And you know what? I'm Jewish, and as far as I'm concerned, I'm not on any path to Jesus - now or ever." she seemed appreciative...

1. IMO, the rudeness began with, "You know I don't celebrate Christmas." One doesn't reply to a
   well-meaning sentiment with a retort.

Sorry.

Whoops, slipped up a little must think quickly...

2. Yeah, well a kid says stuff like that...
Edited on Sat Dec-25-10 08:57 AM by PCIntern
and afaIc, 22 is still very young. She meant no disrespect..."sorry" I didn't make that clear - it should have been written, "You know, I don't celebrate Christmas."

Hmmm...wouldn`t that have sort of messed up this part of the story. Now I must add that many times, my staff have 'private' conversations with patients about personal matters or families which are connected in the neighborhood or church or whatever, so it did not surprise me that my staff member might know something which I did not.

The truth is always easy to remember,a lie is not.

Well looky,a DUmmy beat me to that.

11. 22 is an adult... a YOUNG adult, to be sure... but not a "kid" in terms of awareness of rudeness.
   .
.
.
.
.
And something doesn't quite click here. Why would "You know, I don't celebrate Christmas"
lead you to believe this:
.
Now I must add that many times, my staff have 'private' conversations with patients
about personal matters or families which are connected in the neighborhood or church or
whatever, so it did not surprise me that my staff member might know something which I did not.

.
.
I would think that the "kid's" statement, stated as it would be with your ORIGINAL punctuation
and its understandably "rude" interpretation, "You know I don't celebrate Christmas" WOULD
cause one to think that but -- with the added comma -- how did you jump to your conclusion?
.
.
.
.
.
The employee was also rude... but ONLY if she actually did KNOW that the other person didn't
celebrate Xmas. Otherwise, she simply wasn't doing a very good job of thinking all-inclusively.
.

I bet PC abandons the thread and no one else will touch this question either. :-)

Muslims don't acknowledge/congratulate the infidel on their religious holidays.

When I worked in Stewart's Ice Cream Plant on the northwest side of Saratoga Springs, we had as one of the store managers a Muslim guy who we knew as Beni.  We in the plant and warehouse didn't like him much, because he had this annoying habit of calling in add-ons to his orders right up until the time that the delivery truck (either the freezer truck or the dry goods truck, as the deliveries were on different days) left the plant/warehouse.  Stewart's is known around its' area as being pretty much the only store that's open on Christmas Day.  Anyway, Beni would come in alone on Christmas Day and work the store himself that day--no one else was scheduled to work on that day.  He was asked why he would go through the trouble of dealing with his store all alone on Christmas Day.  His answer?  "I'm Muslim--this day means nothing to me.  It means something to my employees, so I want them to enjoy the day with their families."

I don't know if he still is a manager with Stewart's, or if he moved up.

12. This part seems like extra frosting on the bouncy:

"...she's about 22 and extremely sweet and charming African-American gal..."

Race and 'gal', has little if anything to do with the tale. If this person had been a 22 year old male, whould he have been a 'boy'? The "Young lady" ..."whom I've known since she was a toddler..." should have sufficed. The add-ons just seems an effort to boost street cred.

Of course the purpose of this bouncy tale is to slander Christians, on Christmas Day, by pointing out what an offensive, proselytizing bunch of intolerant fundies they are. He's also trolling for approval, since he knows most democrat DUmbasses hate Christians as much as he does. It's funny that he claims to be a Jew, in a DUmp where Jews are hated almost as much as Christians. It is a nice touch though, to make his bouncy's heroine, the victim of the awful, aggressive Christian,  a "sweet and charming" black muslim "gal".

Maybe it's just me, but it seems that bouncy tales have become an endangered species at the DUmp. So many DUmbasses lurk here, or read PJ Comix, they know they'll be ridiculed. Sometimes, like this one, they even get mocked by other DUmmies (though the vast majority of DUmmies take every lame bouncy tale seriously). Anyway, it seems they are a lot less frequent than a couple of years ago, and they are missed. So, come on, DUmmies!! Get on the ball and jumpstart that feeble imagination! Now is the time to launch your campaign for Top DUmmy of 2011!

Is it really an important fact to the story to point out that these ladies were african American?  Or is the OP just trying to show how progressive they are in that they employ and have "AA's" as their customers?

Didja notice in PCI's last bouncy there was another mention of 'African American'?

Interesting.

Charlize Theron is an African American. She was born in Benoni, Gauteng in South Africa and became an American citizen.

I wonder from which part of Africa the individual in the Bouncy comes? And is the individual black or white?

The above may sound silly but this PC "African American" stuff chaps my behind. If you're an American who was born here you're an AMERICAN. You might be an American that is black or white. Or you may even be an American of African or European descent. Regardless, you're an AMERICAN. If you don't like being an AMERICAN go somewhere else.

And another thing that sticks in my mind--exactly how many medical offices are open on Christmas Eve when Christmas falls on a weekend?

Hell, none of our town offices were open yesterday, and with the exception of the stores (most of which closed early), there wasn't a whole lot open yesterday.

I hate it when people say, "I don't celebrate Christmas."  Okay, then just say "thank you" and leave.  I'm not going to guess what everyone does or does not celebrate.  If you don't celebrate Christmas, or any other holiday around this time of year, lock yourself up in your home from the day after Thanksgiving until December 26 you miserable human being.

Irrelevant. The PC primitive is most likely a janitor in a dental office and employees no one.

Aside from the PC bouncy, If I had an employee say what the AA desk jockey said to a customer/patient, I would have fired her on the spot. She could cause a loss of customers.

Really looking forward to some good Christmas dinner bouncies. Always a fertile subject for bouncy tales. Lots of fundies, repukes, and haters around the dinner table, being put in their place by the sharp-tongued, clever, quick-thinking, family DUmbass. Even normal families often have a family DUmbass.

We were driving through town the 1st night of Hanukkah and there was a Menorah Lighting going on and there was dancing and music, we parked our car and walked over because it looked like fun, it turned out to be a group of Hasidic Jews, they came over to talk to us, they asked if we were Jewish, we said no we're Catholic, they offered us food that they were serving, we had a nice conversation, then the man said Happy Hanukkah to us, we wished him Happy Hanukkah back, and that was it, not 1 bit of offense taken at all. How the heck can someone be offended by a nice greeting or wish?
