Awesomeness from the internet and apparently Belgium
« on: December 25, 2010, 12:10:13 AM »
I met this guy on another website I frequent.
At some time in the past, I mentioned that I collect shot glasses. Somewhere on MT, I mentioned that I collect shot glasses, and I promptly forgot ever mentioning it.

A while back, I got a PM from Bruno, who asked if I still collected shot glasses and would I like a couple from Belgium.

I said I would love a couple of shot glasses from Belgium. I've never been to Belgium, I doubt I'll ever make it there, but, if I do, I have to look up Bruno.

It came today, a somewhat odd looking box, festooned with airmail stickers and Belgian postmarks.

I tore into it like a 6 year old into a Christmas present, happy to see the Belgian shot glasses.

But, the first box wasn't shot glasses, it was a pound of gourmet chocolates!
The second thing I found was rather heavy for it's size and wrapped securely in gift wrap and newspaper, and it wasn't shot glasses either.
It was shot glass filling...
BOOZE!
Jenever in fact, in a really neat looking stone bottle.
Finally, I unwrapped the shot glasses. The first was tall and thin and stemmed. "Oooh, this is neat." I thought.
The second was shorter and stout and heavy with Leuvense Genever emblazoned across it in a double arch.
The chocolates are from Leonidas, I looked them up online, $36. The postage was 18 Euros at today's exchange rate: $21.
What an amazingly nice and generous thing to do for someone you've never laid eyes on. I was completely blown away and will have to think of something very nice to send him to reciprocate.

Very cool :II:

I've been through Belgium.  I don't recall if we ever stopped, though.  Blink and you'll miss it.

How serious are you about sending him an American gift.??        How about a fully dressed Harley with Texas steer horns mounter on the fender.

Don, I'd say keep it local if you can.  I'm kind of stumped as to what to reciprocate with, I mean if I were still in CA, oranges wouldn't do, nor would something (even nice) from Disneyland, but I'm sure I could find something shopping around.

But I definitely learned my lesson from trying to ship lobster.  Stick with the non-perishables.

On second thought, how about a nice wine, or perhaps a bottle of a good tequila, if he drinks?

My cousin bottles his own barbecue sauce, a bottle of that,
a nice CA Wine, might be just the thing
