I gave everyone in the department a 4 day weekend.  I did the math, knew I could handle the caseload, but, wow, have I been busy the last two days.  

Also, youngest, who is saving for her junior and senior years in college, took on a house cleaning/light remodel job so she could take a mission trip next week.  So tack on an extra 3 to 5 hours a day.  Grateful for my health and energy level that I can do these things.

Was planning on doing a lot of baking this afternoon.  Had it all planned out.  Put the banana bread in the oven and the thing started acting up.  Very inconsistant, but lower, temperatures.  No appliance stores nearby and wouldn't be opened if they were.  Not the worst thing in the world.  

We're now planning a Christmas treat fest the second weekend of January.  

I agree about Mass done in Latin.  Seems the 'right' way, or at least a comfortable tradition to me.

spent the evening wiht my family. We all met at my youngest sisters home for a change and while enjoying the festivites and the snacks my youngest nephew who is 6 years old, was heard to shout at the top of his lungs this catchy phrase,

just got home after an excellent dinner and one long, boring movie.  Damn dog bit me again... my leg hurts.

Well, spent the day in a frantic rush of last minute shopping and had put a coffee cake in the oven for breakfast tomorrow morning.  While I was washing up the dishes, I ran out of hot water and now there's none in the house.  Hubby went to sleep half an hour ago, so I'm stuck until the morning to figure out whether it's just the pilot light going out, or if it's something worse.  I do not mess with stuff like that, period.
Not the first Christmas problem either.  Three Christmas Days ago my stove quit working, and I ended up cooking everything in appliances not necessarily tailored for the task.  Fortunately I had ordered a HoneyBaked Ham so it was possible to serve it cold.

I'm wondering if someone's got it in for me.  We had to get our a/c fixed last month and now the engine light has popped up on my car's dash.

Hopefully everyone else is having a wonderful Christas Eve/Christmas.

What did I do?  I spent time resting, as I had to sing with my choir at the 9 PM Mass, which is when our parish does its' Midnight Mass.  We had a full church, but no one was standing, soi I'd say about 850 people.  We did nine Christmas carols before Mass, and it was somewhat of a challenge as our usual director flew to Miami with his wife and son (who is in The Heiress' day care), to sing with his FIL.  So, we had a stand-in director, who directed our Contemporary Choir many years ago, directing us.  While we warmed up, we were in disarray.  But, as it seems to shake out, when we got into the choir "loft" behind the main altar, we sounded great.  A full-throttle "O, Come All Ye Faithful"--with the third verse being Latin.  I love doing that.  I lost my way during "The Christmas Gloria," but I knew enough to back off the volume and let the two other tenors (both 75 years old, but neither one looks 65, much less 75) take it.  The rest of the songs went alright . . . and the "Hallelujah Chorus" at the end . . . Full volume.  My voice was giving out right around the final part, and I had to drop an octave . . . but that just didn't sound right.  Back to the proper octave . . . and it was worth losing my voice for a few seconds.

We don't have to practice again until the 5th of January. :yahoo:

Boy, it sure is easy to start taking things for granted until you lose them.  I am feeling doubly grateful for all the sacrifices, great and small, that our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines out in the field defending our great country are making,today and every day as we go about our mundane lives.  Thank you!!
I am making yam casserole now and then we're headed over to my daughter's apartment, so I guess I'll catch up with everyone later.  A merry and blessed Christmas Day to all. :cheersmate:
