In victory for Obama, Senate advances arms treaty

In a crucial victory for President Obama's efforts to establish a new nuclear arms treaty with Russia, the Senate on Tuesday voted 67-28 to end debate on the START treaty over a vocal but shrinking chorus of GOP objectors.

The treaty now advances toward almost certain Senate ratification Wednesday, marking the third time in about a week that Obama won congressional support for a major agenda item in what many expected to be a fruitless lame-duck session for the Democrats.

Obama wants it. Obama also wants to weaken America. So Obama will probably get his START Treaty with Russia ... with the help of quite a few Republicrat Senators. Senate approval is expected this morning.

This treaty states that the United States is not allowed to improve or upgrade its defenses against ballistic missile attacks. Right now Iran and Venezuela are making plans for missile bases in Venezuela. If we determine that there is a threat of missile attacks from South America we are not permitted under the START Treaty to upgrade our defenses to meet that threat. Hows that for hope and change?

The preamble to the treaty limits our missile defense capability, but the supporters are saying that  we don't have to abide by the preamble.  The Ruskies say if anything is changed then it's no good.   There was some lib on Greta Van Sustern last night who refused to be pinned about it.  We're screwed.

Me and son were on the way back from town when we caught a snippet about this treaty on the radio. He asked me what it was all about. I explained it to him and his reaction was....and I quote..."THAT STUPID S** OF A B****....oops, excuse me daddy. I didn't mean to say that but that just sounds so stupid I couldn't help myself."
