The reason the death of DADT shakes straight, rightwing men to their very core
   
is because it destroys the myth that they have long perpetuated about gay men: that they are all lisping, immoral, weak and cowardly. This myth and other convenient stereotypes have long served as their bulwark against attacks on their heterosexist, patriarchal grip on power in this country.

Psychologically, the destruction of this myth has long term, profound consequences for the hierarchy of dominance in this nation of ours - all of them healthy and all of them good for both women in general and gay men specifically.

Today is far more powerful than if 15% of the NFL all came out of the closet at once. Or if all the gay movie stars suddenly had the urge to be publicly honest about who they are.

It's far more powerful because that aging, rightwing marine sitting on his couch in southern Indiana never was a football player or a movie star.

But he was a marine once and that identification has been the single, most powerful tool to enable him to self justify his rank prejudices and aggressive opposition to positive, generational growth and change.

The destruction of Don't Ask Don't Tell takes the mask off. And what is left is the emperor with no clothes, clutching his Bud light and his remote control, suddenly very, very angry, very insecure and very unsure about his position of dominance in a new America.

It is your attitude and love of country, a willingness to put country above self, to place your life on the line for someone else. A soldier isn't white or black or hispanic or asian. They are not gay or straight. They are soldiers. First and last.

What pisses most of us off is that you left thinking civilians think that by getting people to openly admit they are gay somehow the Army will be a better place. You want to military to be a pleasent experience where everyone gets along. Guess what, creampuff, war is hell. It is the worst thing you could possiblyput someone through. It destroys people, mentally and physically without ever being wounded by the enemy. Eight out of ten people serving in combat don't make it through a year without breaking. We strive to make training harder than war so that we give our people a chance of making it out alive.

But you don't care about that. You want guys life Dan Choi to get to serve. As nice a guy Dan probably is, he wouldn't last a day in combat. I doubt the guy can deal with the sort of street the typical combat infantryman put up with in training. Hell, I know it. He went Military Intelligence. That's not hard stressful work. That's a desk job. But hey, you don't care about that. As long as the gays get to serve, it doesn't matter.

Most of the combat guys are between the ages of 19 and 23. They are still kids, really, trying to figure out who they are. For the most part they come from middleclass families with not a whole lot of life experience, no more than a kid in college does. They are not war harden killers like you see in the movies. It is us older guys, the ones who have been through a few actions, a few of the advanced killing schools that are the backbone of this military.

We know that you mix a bunch of young kids with a dangerous situation and they are going to act out. They drink a bit, and the **** anything that will let them. They blow off steam when they are not working. That's good. Because when we are doing our day job they need to focus.

There are gays in the military right now doing their job. They don't make an issue about who they **** and for the most part nobody cares. It's when they decide that they are GAY soldiers, who put their own desires and lifestyle before being a soldier that their are issues. You loose focus in combat and you die. Odds are you'll end up killing a few of your buddies too. So, two gay soldiers, supposedly on guard suddenly decide to suck cock rather than watch the wire put the  at risk.

There is a reason we don't put women in combat units. Young kids under stress do what comes naturally. We take that temptation away from them. Now, all us straight white combat soldiers are not worried that some queer is gonna turn us gay, we just know that two gay soldiers in a foxhole are gonna ****, and put the mission at risk. Trust me. Put a guy and a girl in a foxhole and it's gonna happen too.

The smart assholes in the Pentagon were trying to figure out how to get away with DADT. To be honest, I dislike those ****ers about as much as I hate you guys. They were struggling with a solution, because there isn't a solution.

See, the thing with integration of the military isn't the same. They thought blacks didn't make as good a soldiers as whites, which is nonsense. It wasn't a question of if you could trust them to put the mission first, over their 'rights'. Because we all know that this is the first step towards more and more rights.

Housing rights for partners. Medical insurance. Life insurance. Every promotion list will have to have an acceptable quota of gays. Every command billet will have to be open to a gay officer. We will be reduced to second class soldiers within our own organizations. Commanders will be flooded with complains from gays over every position and assignment. There will be hours of gay acceptance training to force every soldier to attend. Every monthly councilling form will be gone over to make sure no anti-gay slight could be found.

All of this chaos during a major war against an enemy that the homosexual community doesn't even recognize. In fact, most of the gay community has been protesting the war since 9/12. AND THAT, is really the point. The left hasn't been fighting for gay rights anymore than they fight for black rights. It is about destroying the military as it currently exists, to end the country's ability to conduct wars.

Most of us old soldiers can see that and that is why we are upset. Gays have served in the military all though DADT. You just don't want the military at all.

That is the reason, after 27 years of service, I will be tendering my resignation this summer. I have all the time I need to retire. I've served more than enough in combat. I don't need to put up with the political shit anymore.

I hope that gay Americans do join up and serve in the military. We are going to need you. I want to all to think about this one thing- when you serve you are a soldier first, last, and always. All that other baggage needs to be left behind.

DH is Navy SPECWAR and is none of what you say. As a matter of fact has no issue with DADT as it kept people's minds on their jobs rather than who they were sleeping with. If you do your job and leave your sex life out of it then he has no problem with you.
In addition to being a real life action figure (in my eyes at least) he builds guns from scratch, can fix anything on 4 wheels and can out cook Emeril. You DUmmies wish you had a real man like that.

I didn't see it in your well written post, but there is something that the DUmmies are oh so fond of pointing out. Gays have a high percentage of mental illness and a high rate of suicide. Are these things that we need more of in the military?

This is what they refuse to acknowledge! Most real soldiers, even if they are gay don't give a rusty about whether or not they walk around with a badge on their chest stating they're gay! They could care less whether or not anyone knows their sexual preference! The men they lead and follow are as close to brothers as the real thing! Sexual preference in a group of men and woman that have no choice but to associating, living with fighting with and dieing with.

Human Nature can not be changed when it comes to sex.    I have found that men who are secure in their maleness in the military do outrageous things to their straight friends, wet willies, titty twisters, all in good fun, all are straight and just goofing off.  A mans thing to blow off steam and release tension with belly laughs.

What happens when open gays join them.??  Who will claim sexual harassment, if the gay men do this--- all the straights would throw up.

We know how it goes in heterosexual life, the number of law suites by employs claiming harassment because their superiors put their arm on their shoulder or watch when they bend over.

Take this to an environment where we will soon have separate camps of straights and gays.  The gays will only be comfortable within their own group and the straights will be ragged on for making friends with a gay.

Unlike a racial difference when nothing is thought of men headed out for a night on the town with 3 or more different  races in a group., But few gay men will want to go to a female strip bar and even fewer straight  men will want to be seen entering a male gay bar.

I agree that when it comes to a fight with an enemy then all will pull together for the collective good.  In a fire fight few will care if the people around them have a thing for sheep or sleazy woman, all they care about is that everyone keeps firing and covering their ass.

Our military does not spend 24/7 fighting and shooting, there are days weeks and months of no action and that is where the problems come in.  I have been told that boredom is the enemy of the military, Too much time to think about home, family's and problems for family they can do nothing about.  All it takes is a look or word to cause a knock down drag out fight.

How the hell does anyone think this is going to work . Straights sent to sentisivy training with  Gays, no one have  taken in the fact that it takes more then a class of two to change their attitude toward the straights and their manhood.

Men and their manhood has ruled the world, even a very young male child will if you throw something in their lap cover their genitiles, knees go together before anything lands in their lap.

All this is not based on race, religion or origon, this is based on human sexuality that is different in us all.     

Insane to think that one can mix two oppisits and get good results for most anything. 

Going to piss me off big time when I find out a family member with 2 kids has to wait 3 years for housing while a Gay serviceman and his " new wife" get housing before them.

TRG, you got me going here , the posibilitys we have thought of that will come in down the line.


Ever think about how the Navy could function if 7 red necks were assigned to a destroyer and all the crew including the captain was  Gay.----How to explain why 7 of the crew jumped overboard in the middle of the Atlantic.
