credit card due date late payment fee bullshit rant
   
you know, just make the date be the ****ing date, don't say payment is due on the 17th and when I try to pay through any of your INSTANTANEOUS, NO HUMAN BEINGS INVOLVED, ELECTRONIC systems, try to con me by saying it takes two days and that to have the payment MADE THIS MORNING, show up as "on time" it's going to cost me another ten dollars and if I say **** you to that I will get a late fee of 29 dollars. BULL SHIT. If you can make it be on time for $10 you can make it be on time for just the extravagant interest you are already getting.

quit trying to **** me over for 10 ****ing dollars.

Here's a clue. Pay it before the due date and no worry about it.

the worst one I had was Home Depot. I waited until the due date to pay it, and even though I can make the payment on the due date without any problems, their website was down.

So I called them to make my payment on the phone. They told me they could do the payment for me over the phone, but there would be a $9.99 fee to do so. I said no thanks, and the site was up a few hours later, so no harm no foul. But, what a racket! You can make your payment over the phone, but you have to pay to do it?????

mind you there are good things about that card (it crosses over to a bunch of other catalogs) but this nickle and dime stuff drives me up the freaking wall

So Kali is a lard ass.  :lmao:

This sounds like one of those high interest credit cards that are given to people with bad credit. It can't be used for anything other that a few online cheap junk places.

10. No, our current "administration"
   
granted credit card companies the ability to assess the late fee if their payment is not received exactly on the due date. No more grace period. So you know what the CC Companies are doing to **** you over even more now? They are making it just that much harder to process you payment on-line or over the phone. I'm paying off the one I have and cutting that ****er in to oblivion.

Oh no!! It's obama's fault.

No has objected to her use of the term "Fat lady"

My bank has always made it very clear that online bill payments take 2 days to show up.  A tiny amount of forethought takes away all the issues with that  :whatever:  Plus my bank has a same day payment feature, but it costs extra ($11 dollars maybe, I've never used it).  When I paid by mail, I always had to pay at least a week before it was due to make sure that it wouldn't be late, and often I paid as soon as I got the bill if I had the money. 

I was late with a payment once, because I had gone out of town without considering what would be due, etc.  They got it one day late.  It was a Macy's credit card bill, so I paid in person as soon as I could.  I called customer service immediately, from my car as soon as I made the payment.   The representative looked at my record, saw that I had never paid late before, and waived all the penalties.

I'd say that Kali isn't very responsible.

I looked up the site that she refers to. They allow purchases to other online clothing sites, none of which I've ever heard of.

IOW, you don't qualify for a Visa, MC, or AMEX, so have this extravagant POS card.

BTW--the only "card" I have besides my debit card is a company credit card for work related travel.  I'm at the point now where if I can't pay for it in cash, I don't need it.

Make sure you're paying in the CORRECT time zone too.

My Capital One payments are processed by EST.  That means I have to pay before noon EST or 9am PST to ensure my payments are not late.  But I am responsible and pay my bills about a week in advance.  I have Capital One send me those paperless bill reminders.  See, I'm doing my part to save the planet.

I'm what the credit card companies call a "dead beat".  I never charge more than I can pay off in a month and I pay the bill as soon as I get it. My card is through a credit union and there are no fees for paying off the bills without paying interest.  The only way they can "punish" me is by keeping the credit limit under 10K, which is fine with me since I would never charge more than I could pay off in a single month.  I use the credit card only for situations where I cannot use cash: hotel reservations, internet purchases, plane tickets, that kind of thing.  I am sure the credit card company hates me because they make no money off of me from fees. Heh, heh, heh....  O-)

In other words, you don't want to pay the bill. Maybe you can get your purcahses for free, huh DUmmie?
How about paying the bill BEFORE the due date and not having to sweat it. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.

Credit card companies do things like this to discourage people from being late.
I know all that medical pot you use clouds your judgment but, business are in business to make money, not hand out freebies to you. You expect the federal govt and the banks to give you every thing for free. Life aint free everything costs money and someone has to pay for it, it's time you grew up and got with the program.

I do that too. They keep raising my limit hoping I'll splurge. Not gonna happen; I even paid cash for my mini-ranch.

I do the same thing but with a rewards card. I use the card every time I need a big item that I would pay cash for like tires and stuff. I have over $200 on it now, its a Cabela's card and they are going to buy me a gun! Of course they give you a poor credit rating for doing that!

My husband cut up the credit cards too - Dave Ramsey disciple.  Save for the new car and our mortgage, it is cash or we don't buy it.

We are slowly making our way into the "no more credit cards" club too.  I closed my Capital One cards, but I still need to pay them off.  After that, I only have store credit cards from Kohl's, Old Navy, and Macy's.  I rarely use those.  The highest balance I've ever had on one is $150.

Make sure you get something from Capital One saying that you are payed off and the account is closed. I payed mine off and called them to close the account. In the mean time we moved here and I never bothered to let them know about our new address because the account was supposed to be closed. About a year later I started getting harassed by some collection agency saying that I owed Capital One money. They never closed my account and kept charging me a fee every month.

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll probably be completely paid off within a few months.

Ya prolly never heard of them coz you're not a fat lady....I shop there..The clothes there are about the nicest I've found for fat women, pretty good quality too...
I don't have one of their credit cards(I don't have any credit cards, can't get one with close to $500,000 in hospital and Dr bills)the helicopter ride was  over $22,000....

No offense taken.  I thank you for the compliment.  My husband & I have never been the "keeping up with the Jones'" type.  That's probably what helps keep our debt level down.

You missed two points that I was making.

First is the use of the word FAT was uttered by KALI on a thread at DU. Nobody objected to her using it. I was pointing that out.

Secondly is that KALI is irresponsible bu not paying bills and then bitching about credit card customer service. She brought it on herself.

Hey, EC, make sure you keep whatever letter you get from Cap One saying it's closed.  They are the worst.  Just file it away.  Congrats on such a sensible financial approach. 

Yes DUmmies, it was your own dear Democrat congress & prez that got you that CARD act.  Unintended consequences?  What are those? 

I don't have a lot on my card, but I pay it 3 weeks in advance.  I'm not dealing with their gotcha fees bullshit.

Why not wait until the very last minute to pay?  I mean, after all, those greedy evil rich companies do not deserve your hard earned dollars two weeks before the due date.

In the mean time we moved here and I never bothered to let them know about our new address because the account was supposed to be closed. Something similar happened to me with them. I closed the account over the phone, cut up the card and mailed it back to them with a letter stating I had closed the account and thought that was the end of it. 4 years later I get a bill from them (good thing I didn't file 13 it thinking it was an ad) and someone had charged a couple of hundred internet charges on it.

We went round and round over that. They finally sent me a letter stating that the account was closed.

Lesson learned.  :cheersmate:
