Remember how Rush got on AFN in the first place? I do. I was there.
The Stars and Stripes included a cut-out ballot listing talk radio programs available stateside that could be added to the AFN roster. I don't remember who all was on it, but I suspect it leaned heavily toward the Howard Stern and NPR varieties.
Rush wasn't on it.
Someone had the bright idea to include a write-in blank at the bottom. Thinking "well, this won't do much good now; maybe someone will see it and start thinking about it for later" I wrote in "Rush Limbaugh", x'ed the box and sent it in.
Seems a lot of people did exactly that. Limbaugh got more votes than anyone actually printed on the ballot.
So we got...one hour of Rush. Late at night, or toodamearly in the morning.
So I rigged my stereo and VCR together to record Rush and catch it later. My roommate was amused to see me "watching" a blank screen with the radio program coming out of the speakers.
