Black Stig Robs Bellagio

Some say he got behind on his gambling debts...

All we know is, we call him The Stig.

$1.5 Million in chips, huh?

Those do you no good, unless you cash them in....  :loser:

Does Bellagio use RFID for their larger denomination of chips?  I know Wynn does.

This yells out as a publicity stunt.   Sure some poor sap will be arrested for this, but the chips will never do anyone any good.

Now if he had taken cash then I may believe this story--but chips.?

This is too well orchestrated to be a real heist, it could have been choreographed for broadway.

When and if the robber is caught, he will never say a word about his boss and we all know who owns the Casinos anywhere in the world.

He will if he knows what is good for him plead guilty and go to jail for a year or two that is cut down to 2 months by the courts.----- Once out he will be missing in 48 hours and never seen again.

Sorry Vesta, this ain't the "old" Vegas of Benny Binion, Bugsey Seigel, Meyer Lansky, and the rest of that crowd.  Long gone are the days when cheats were found buried in the desert with one hand sticking up holding an Ace.

This guy won't "disappear" when he gets caught, but he might wish he had.

The Bellagio wouldn't say if they did or not, but I'm pretty sure they do.

Actually, it's not.  This guy hit another casino earlier this month and got away with $20,000.  Of course he will be arrested, Vesta.  He pulled a gun on people.  That's a felony.  Those chips are worthless to him.  If I worked at the Bellagio, I'd be laughing at his sorry ass for stealing chips that cannot be cashed in because Bellagio knows they are missing.  The second anyone tries to cash those in, they will be arrested.

Our casinos are not pathetic enough to pull a publicity stunt such as this.  They still get a lot of business.  We just had the rodeo finals going on here in town and the NASCAR awards ceremony.  Our town has been very busy for the last two weeks.  It's not like the casino executives were bored and thought, 'Hey, let's pull a publicity stunt with an armed man.  That will definitely make people want to come to our casino!'  Wrong.

What makes you so sure of this, this may be new times but at times the old days are used as they WORKED.

Times are really hard when Casinos go under and we have had a surprising amount of them file for bankrupt or section 10 in the last couple years.

Have you seen Vegas lately or even closer to home Foxwood.?   They are a mess, we noticed 2 years ago at foxwood that paint was peeling off the walls and most of the fun stuff was gone.   Like the show that was put on in the main hall with the talking trees going through the roof and the Indian warrior that used to spin about as dark shades were pulled over the glass dome over him to project birds in flight etc.  Now that poor old warrior just sits in place all alone and nothing to fire his arrow at.

Sparky you have i guess read about people that hit it big on progression slots that have Casino workers in plain sight to all running out to pull the plug on that machine and refuse a pay off due to machine malfunction.

I have good friends that have gone to Vegas once a year for 15 years.  They take advantage of the ever cheaper air fair and last month got a hotel room withing walking distance to the main area for less then $30.00 a night.

My friends go for the shows that are becoming outrageously priced and now say the old cheap food is gone.  As is Foxwood, the Buffet was 5 years ago $10.00 a person, now it is almost $20.00 and the food is so-so.  One can for $10.00 get a buffet much better elsewhere.

On the other hand I would love to see someone build a Casino at Pease, a Yacht club and the landing Field would bring in millions for this area.

Have I seen Vegas lately?

Uh, yeah... I LIVE in Las Vegas.  I see this city every second I am awake.  Vesta, you have NO idea what you're talking about.  Last year, we had FOUR people hit the big multi-million dollar progressive games.  They all got their winnings.  Are you aware that those machines are NOT ran by the casinos?  They are run by the slot machine makers.  The casinos have no idea when those games will hit, nor will they know the locations.

You are crazy.

We always eat cheap in Las Vegas.  You only pay full price if you don't know how to get the lower prices.  But then again, I am a spoiled local who gets discounts just because I have my picture on a Nevada driver's license.  I bet that's some sort of conspiracy too, right?

Bingo, vesta--I'm a little more knowledgeable about Vegas because I also (briefly) lived there as a young adult, and when I lived in CA, was there at least 6-7 times a year on business or for a weekend out.  As it is now, I "only" go there maybe once or twice a year.

BTW--which makes more sense to you?  Spend a night at Foxwoods, provided you can get one of the incredibly overpriced rooms ($300/night in the tower, $400+ at MGM on the weekends, $200/night Sun-Thur) if they're available.  The machines are MUCH tighter than in Vegas, the comps are practically nonexistent, and they treat their customers like crap because they have the "we're the only game in town" attitude.

OR--you could get a $250 flight to Vegas out of either Manchester or Boston, spend 3-4 nights at a NICE Strip hotel for way less than what Foxwoods is asking (last trip I stayed at TI for $40/night) and eat like a freaking king for $10.  Granted, the days of the $7.77 prime rib buffet are pretty much gone, but you can eat pretty damned well on nearly ANY budget.  Oh, and if you go back to the same properties (like I used to with the MGM Mirage group) they'll give you $50+ free slot play, free buffets, discounted (or free) tickets to shows, admittance to private events (like the year I went to a Super Bowl party--free food, booze, giveaways, etc).

Vegas transited over from mob-run to corporate-run starting in the late-60's/early-70's, and was pretty much complete by the mid-80's.

Which casinos have filed for bankruptcy in Vegas?  None that I'm aware of.  Foxwoods, OTOH, is in SERIOUS financial trouble:

http://feathernews.blogspot.com/2010/03/more-on-financial-outlook-of-foxwoods.html

http://www.philly.com/inquirer/local/pa/20101215_Foxwoods_submits_data_to_avert_losing_casino_license.html

Buffets and shows were considered "loss leaders".  When people gamble less, the resorts charge more in other areas to make up the difference.  Both Foxwoods and Vegas charge "resort fees" that tack on an extra $10-20 per day for things you may or may not use (mostly not).

A lot of our properties file for bankruptcy protection.  Station Casinos is one of them, but I believe they "re-organized" their debts.  They were just hiring last month.

Station Casinos are offering cheap buffets this month.  $5 for breakfast, $7 for lunch, and $9 for dinner and Sunday brunch.  It's a steal since the Feast Buffet is my favorite buffet.  My in-law's stayed at Sunset for free when they were here last month.  They had so man comps.  And Sunset also gave them five free buffet vouchers.

With differing openions among acquaintances that go to Vagas 2-3 times a year I have to take their word on things that are Then and Now.

The older folks tell me when the Mob controlled the town, one could walk about anywhere with their cups of money in plain sight and never worry about robbed.  The Mob would not stand for the Casinos customers to feel threatend in any way.

The Hookers were regulated quite strongly, they were all working for the Mob and had to be disease free and discreat---prostuition was illegal with in the entertainment areas, so woman coming in from the outside would be, not too politely shown the door and sent to Winamucka .

Any small restaurant was owned by the Mob and sold food at ridiculously low prices, just to keep the average Joe in town.

At one time Vagas was considered one of the safest town to visit, work in or live because of the Mob.--It was said they ran the town with an iron fist, The customers that came had to know they were safe and would come back again.
Their workers had to be kept safe and the people that wished to pray on their customers would find themselves taken for a ride to watch the sun rise in the desert.

This all changed when the Mob was ---some say--run out of town.  Yeah, right.

Once the town became out of the Mobs control, it has become much like Atlantic City.-----Whole areas that no tourest wants to find themselves in.

My today friends that go to Vagas are at no time feeling safe, they watched a gang fight a couple years ago, police came and hauled the guys away to a nice cosy cell, no rides in the desert for them, they will be back next year.

On a cab ride to their hotel they saw He/Shes on every corner, They could have walked instead of the cab but that is asking for Mucho trouble.  They take this in stride as they have never known Vagas from the old days when such a thing would have been impossible, unthinkable.

So I hear all this and wonder, if I had my choice to just visit Vagas at any time in history, would I want to go in the past under the Mob rule or today looking over my shoulder constantly.?

Vagas?

Can't tell you anything about that.

Vegas is pretty cool.  I don't feel unsafe, but then again, I'm someone who walks around with a gun strapped to me at all times.

Vesta - let's be real.  This is Las Vegas.  City of Sin.  You're going to see things here that you would not see in most places.  I'm sure the Las Vegas people are a lot more sane and "normal" compared to some of the freaks running around in Hollywood.  How an armed robbery story turned into hookers and transvestites is beyond me... but whatever.

Crime happens every where.  You're not safe ANY WHERE.  Would you rather live in Detroit or Las Vegas?  The answer is obvious -- Las Vegas.  It's not dangerous here.  It's only dangerous if you listen to all the fear mongering tourists who think the CSI stories on TV are true.

Why do you carry if the darn place is safe.???

I have my stun gun but forget about it until I change purses, would I ever have the sense to remember I have it in a throw down, most likely not.  Unless one is trained and thinks security every day, when trouble starts it likely comes out of the blue, not expecting it and first thing one thinks of is duck and cover.----Some people when faced with an unusual occurrence will just stand and gape at the action as they have no idea what is going on.

You my dear are a survivalist living in a land that is alien to me.  You must be on your toes every day for your land is full of violence and threats.

We have some horrific crimes here, people will at times do things that are unimaginable to us, they were few and far between before  now almost every few months---we who still forget to lock our doors.

Were I to carry in this neck of the woods it would be an air gun, small and compact.  I have no wish to kill anyone but a good blast to the face of an intruder will put them on the run.

In Tenn. I had a shot gun by the door and I knew how to use it, we were way out in the boonies and the critters that bothered me were the two legged kind that came around for no reason.

Today I live in what is called a quaint New England Village.  Things happen up or down the road in other towns but for now all is peaceful.   So far.

Evil, of all the people on this forum, you are the ONE I would most like to meet in person.    You have all your ducks in a row for your time and place, and I wish my daughters were more like you.

It is always a pleasure talking to you.
