Are we really a nation so narrow-minded and nativist that we would deny citizenship to bright and

talented young adults with the brains to become surgeons, engineers or astronauts? Are we so grimly determined to punish illegal border-crossings that we would deport young men and women who want to fight for the United States in Afghanistan?

Yet, we are foreclosing an opportunity to welcome a group of young people with the promise of becoming stellar citizens. The DREAM Act — a bill that would grant “green cards” to, in all likelihood, no more than 1 million of the nation’s 11 million illegal immigrants — is in trouble. It narrowly passed the House last week, but its prospects in the Senate are poor.

An irrational hard line on illegal immigration has come to be one of the most important principles of the Republican Party, a position that its elected officials dare not flout. Only eight Republicans voted for the DREAM Act in the House, and Senate Republicans who used to support it have backed away — no, run away — from it.

Those include Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who was chief sponsor of the original Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act when it was introduced in 2001. Now, he fears a Tea Party challenge of the sort that claimed his Republican colleague from Utah, Sen. Bob Bennett, and he wants nothing to do with the bill.

  • Where are you going? I was gonna make espresso!
I will say this--the path to citizenship in this country is a convoluted and often confusing path that shouldn't be as hard as it is.

That being said, name me another country that's easier.

How come I don't see them yapping about this in the other thread about the person who wants to leave the US and go to another Country? no yapping at all about the higher standards other Countries have, so which is it? do you believe a Country has a right to have high standards in who they let in? or not?

Yes.
Yes we are.
Help keep America beautiful...deface a liberal.

The Democrat and Republican parties are simply the left and right wings of the same bird of prey.

The road to freedom is paved with dead liberals.

The Fall of Rome was accelerated by the use of the Germanic tribes in the Roman legions to protect the frontier provinces. In exchange they were given citizenship. They could not send representatives to the Roman Senate or have a say in the taxation or the spending. This opened the door for the Goths,Huns and Visigoths to eventually sack Rome. While there have been extraordinary sacrifices by undocumented
aliens in the service of the U.S. military, worthy of consideration of US citizenship, the DREAM Act is a canard. Illegal aliens would serve in the military for all the wrong reasons. They would see citizenship as a brass ring rather than a responsibility to the U.S.A. I know that sounds callus, but being an American means that you are part of the amalgam that makes this country great. We are a compendium of races, creeds and color. We believe that everyone has value to the American experiment. To segregate a race or an ethnic class for special consideration is abhorrent and denigrates the true sacrifices and contributions of every immigrant to this country. No to the Dream Act.

Why don't I ever see the DUmmies expressing the same concern for the hardworking, highly educated legal immigrants who wait so long for a green card?

  • All in all, not bad, not bad at all
Why don't I ever see the DUmmies expressing the same concern for the hardworking, highly educated legal immigrants who wait so long for a green card?
The DUmp is sympathetic only to uneducated Mexican peasants. Even though they've at least shown the initiative to have themselves smuggled across the border, they're dirt poor, even more impoverished than DUmmies. DUmmies love to think there's a rung on the ladder below even them. If you don't come to America hidden under a load of watermelons, though, the DUmp doesn't want you. These peasants, and the swarms of little peasants they're sure to breed, are expected to become reliable democrat votes after getting amnesty and citizenship from the jug-eared Kenyan.

Hardworking, highly educated immigrants are hated by DUmp democrats. They're the H1B visa holders who are vilified in thread after thread at the DUmp. DUmmies hate H1B visa holders because they are professional people who earn more money than DUmmies the minute they get off the plane. They're intelligent, industrious people who, if they eventually qualify for green cards, and then citizenship, are likely to appreciate the unique miracle of America. That means they are likely to become Republicans. Wealthy Repukes.

Because legal immigrants love America and WANT to be Americans, they tend to be law abiding and self sufficient, everything the left despises.

How about the aborted American babies that could have been doctors, scientists, astronauts, presidents?
