State Championship Game
« on: December 12, 2010, 11:46:31 AM »
Our little high school football team (3a) has advanced to the State Championship game!  We will be playing in Dallas Cowboy stadium in Arlington this coming Friday!!

Both of my kids are in the band and it is going to be super cool to watch them march on that field.

This has been one looooong football season.  This Friday we'll be playing our 16th week to finish our season.  While I'm going to miss watching the band I'm sure going to be glad to have my Friday's back.

Anyone in the Dallas area want to come see some outstanding high school football??

A little about our team and our coach who lost his dad during the season

Our game this past Friday

What an awesome year these kids have had!

If you want to see some good football at the Death Star, hang around until Saturday at 8:00. My school (Euless Trinity) is playing Pearland for the 5A D-1 State Title. We've run a virtual Murderer's Row in the playoffs, including Allen, Arlington Martin, Coppell, and Round Rock Stony Point. Due to turnovers, we spotted Coppell 13 points in the 1st quarter, but kept chipping away at their lead 4 points at a time. It finally came down to this: Down by 5, 3rd and goal from the 2 yard line, 3 seconds on the clock. Tevin Williams scores after time expires to win 41-40. One more win and it'll be 4 State Titles in 6 years for my Trojans.

Good luck to your team, Texacon.

I would LOVE to stay up there and watch all the games but we won't be able to BUT I do have them set up to record.  I just found out last night that Fox Sports Southwest is airing all the games at the Cowboys stadium.

We are only 3a but Southeast Texas football is legendary for their support.  We played at SHSU the Friday before last and while our town only has 690 population ... they estimated the crowd size at that game to be between 10,000 and 12,000.  Wow!

Sounds like y'all had a nail biter to get to the show!  Dang what a game!!  We've only played one really close game this year.  Right now we're at 14-1 with the 1 loss being our first game of the year.  We ended up beating them in the 3rd round of playoffs.  We were told we couldn't beat them because they were ranked 4th in the state.

Y'all are the Trojans too??  Cool!  Good luck.

I have a question though ... you say above y'all were chipping away at the lead 4 points at a time.  Is that a typo?  If not how were y'all doing that?

Our big thing is our running attack.  We've got 2 running backs with totally different styles who can put some yards out there.  One of them, Sherman Gilbert, runs like a snake.  If/when he breaks loose it is almost always a TD.  No one can catch him in the open.

Each team got 8 possessions. Trinity squandered their first two with turnovers, but then went on to score a touchdown the next 6 times they got the ball. Coppell got 8 possessions as well, but only scored 4 TDs and 4 FGs. Neither team punted the entire game. We chipped away at their lead "4 points at a time" by trading touchdowns for field goals. We didn't bother with the PAT after scoring the game winning TD as time expired.

Ok, gotchya.  That makes sense.

One of our strongest things is the conversion.  We don't have a very good kicker but we have awesome running backs.  We can almost always get the conversion.

It has made for some very interesting play watching the other team try to figure out how they are going to catch us when we've got 16 and they have 7.

Oh man.  I'm sure your office is going to miss you but ... hey, it's football!!

LOL

That's too bad.  Would love to meet you and show off my kids.

If you still want to see the game, as mentioned above, it is going to be carried live on Fox Sports Southwest.  They are carrying all the UIL games this year and I think it said on their site this is the first year that's ever been done.

HA.  It is my department, and we only have 11 people.  I think I would be missed.  I would much rather go to a game, especially to cheer on the band!  I will check out my TV line up tonight.  I should get that channel.

Our band was so fired up against Wimberley in Baylor's stadium this last Friday that the cameramen kept shooting our band when they weren't shooting the football game.

The band was sitting at the 20 yard line and I'll guarantee they helped stop a touchdown.  Wimberley had to take 2 timeouts while on the 3 yard line because they couldn't get it together.  The band director told the kids to play a certain song and play it LOUD.  Heh, they played that song for like 5 minutes solid.

Welcome back to Texas!

Texas HS football ..... I don't know if any other states support their football like Texas does.  Where I grew up we didn't have football so I don't know.

I grew up in Kilgore (in east TX) and, of course, football was a big deal (as in every Texas town, big or small). My older brother was QB and I was on the drill team.  Friday nights were big nights for us :).  Its fun to watch the next generation. I'll be back for sure!

Well tomorrow is our big day!  We leave the school early in the AM and return .... early in the AM!  LOL

Wish us well.  If you watch it on TV I'll be over by the band, probably with a camcorder in my hand.  My wife will be holding signs that read "Coldspring Trojan Band".

Haaa- it's a small world isn't it? I graduated in 86, so it's been a long time :)

ETA:  Henderson - woo hoo! I had some friends there :)  Did you go to school there?  The closest I've been to an east Texas game is last year when Waxahachie played Longview.  Many good years in Kilgore.

Our high school here won their 38th game in a row for a 3rd straight 2a State Championship last weekend. They played 3 away games in Texas at the beginning of the season so they could get a national ranking. They finished that ranked 22nd.
Head are all swollen up here. It's all anyone talks about.

Well it's over.  What a season!  We lost to Carthage who has not won their 3rd straight State Championship.  We were unable to contain their passing game and they shut down our running game.  We had a really good first half and I think we could have done a better job but I think the boys had the 'jitters'.  We just had too many penalties.

Oh well, it was fun!  It was a great experience and I got to walk on the Dallas Cowboy field!  Woo Hoo!!  Heh.

The band was great though.  If any of you watched the game just about ALL the music you could hear was the Coldspring band.

And ...... I get my Friday's back!!   :yahoo:

 :-)

Congrats to any Carthage fans!
