Ivy League professor charged with incest
« on: December 10, 2010, 11:49:37 AM »
Quote
A Columbia University professor accused of a three-year sexual relationship with his daughter was charged with incest yesterday.

Political science professor David Epstein, 46, allegedly bedded his 24-year-old daughter between 2006 and 2009.

Epstein, who specialises in American politics and voting rights, is said to have also exchanged twisted text messages with the girl during the consensual relationship.

University spokesman Robert Hornsby said that Epstein 'is now on administrative leave and will not be teaching students'.

Holy crap. This started when she was 21? This goes way beyond just. Incest.  I'm betting "Dad" had been setting this up for years thinking it was OK if the kid was 21.

Until 10 or so years ago they universally condemned gay marriage, too.  Given that consenting adults are involved, and absent offspring, it is difficult to distinguish the two cases as OK for one and vile for the other ,on any purely 'rational humanist' legal approach such as we might well expect to see a present-day gay-marriage-friendly court use.

"Adopted."  She wasn't genetically related to him.  I had to look this one up, but apparently there wasn't any proof he had done it when she was a minor.  Mia Farrow alleged he had also sexually abused a much younger daughter but ultimately there wasn't enough proof to go to court so he was never indicted or tried on any sex charges for the whole pathetic event.

Dude, use your brain. His adopted daughter is not genetically related to him.

That no longer seems to matter in the law.   Step parents or any one that has any kind of controll over a minor is treated the same as a blood relative.

The kicker here is his daughter was an adult when she agreed to have sex with her father, or he agreed to have sex with her.

This whole thing is so odd at least to me, that a 21 year old woman would be bedding down with Daddy. For 3 frigging years this went on, so who blew the whistle on them and is it possible that the father is not her biological parent??

Just saw a picture of the professor....he looks like he should have been more interested in a son, a brother or his daddy.

I guess the crazies have all been rounded up and interned in colleges around the US.   :-)

College for adult children is very expensive even for an in State school.

We see the discontent in London over the price of a college education going up to $5,000 is that for a year or total?

While our kids are in grade school and high school we Americans get frustrated with the teachings of our kids.  Little we can do about that, it is free.  However when the kids graduate then comes the time the parents need to be extra  on alert as they have to pay out of pocket for the education.   Kids do work their way through college, wait tables etc.

Any school is only as good as their teachers--- when we or our children have to pay big bucks for an education we need to look into who we are paying to teach them.

What classes are they taking, and why.  Will a class in basket weaving help someone wanting to major in Botany?   True it may help down the line if the student wants to go into basket weaving to know the correct type of grasses to use.

All knowledge is usefull at some time in our life, however a background check on the tenured teachers will help, what clubs the belong to, the papers they have written, their political views and what faith they follow.

Heck doing a background check on a child care provider will tell us if we wish to intrust our kids to them.

Just because a child turns a certain age does not mean their parents need not continue to look after their welfare.

Back when the adult age was set at 21 the parents had a safety net to continue to watch and take care of offspring that may be getting out of control.

Back to England, these kids have been getting free education for YEARS,  now if they are lucky their parents must help pay and they need to get a job to help with the bills.----There are few jobs they can get that will not cut into class time.

Same situation America is in today, we have given entitlements to 3 generations and now want to take them away.

When one takes candy from a baby and becomes angry when the baby yells, what do they expect?
