Angry Democrats Could Punt on Tax Cuts Deal

Another bullshit-laden article from the AP.  "Republicans could share the blame if Democrats vote down Obama's tax plan."  How?  The AP's writeup says nothing of the kind.  But they just slipped that in to see if you were paying attention.  That's at least the second time this week I've seen them do that.

Dems would LIKE to try to push that meme, and it's one I'm seeing popping up in the MSM more and more--that if tax cuts (no, it's NOT a "tax cut", it's merely holding them where they are) aren't extended, it's because the GOP played the "party of NO" card again.

Try again, Dems--and I'm typing this slowly so you're not missing anything here--IT IS NOT A TAX CUT.  IT IS A CONTINUATION OF CURRENT TAX RATES WHICH, IF NOT EXTENDED, WOULD RESULT IN THE LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN AMERICAN HISTORY.

But hey, if ya'll want to cut your own throats, go ahead and vote down that proposed legislation.  Let the middle class see the bullshit story you've been putting out there since 2007, and it'll make last month look mild in comparison.

By 6-to-1 Margin, Networks Paint Debate As Over 'Tax Cuts,' Not Raising Rates

Even with Monday’s deal between President Obama and top Republicans, no American’s income tax rates will actually decline on January 1 (although, if the deal passes, workers will notice a modest reduction in their payroll taxes in 2011). Yet throughout this debate, the broadcast networks have insisted on framing the debate as about “tax cuts” and “tax breaks,” not about forestalling a tax increase that could jeopardize the weak recovery.

Axelrod called the proposal "a good deal," saying the president and his team "need to focus on what's good for the country, what's good for the American people."

If no deal was passed, he said, "taxes would go up, people would lose their unemployment insurance and the economy would suffer."

He also downplayed predictions that the tax deal -- which does not include any revenue-raising measures -- will increase the deficit by a huge amount.

"The most important thing we can do to get our deficit down is to have robust economic growth," he said on CNN's "American Morning." "Every economist who has looked at this said this would be a real shot for economic growth."
