Am I And Others Like Me Selfish?
I lost my home, car, business, and most of my friends and unsympathetic relatives during the Great Recession. I am driving a seventeen year old borrowed car that needs over a thousand dollars worth of work including brakes. I have lived in twenty six different places since June. I have made fifteen mile trips just to sell an old chair I had from the home I no longer have for $15.00. If it wasn't for the beneficence of friends and my girlfriend's unemployment benefits I would be homeless or in jail.

I worked for thirty years and collected one week of unemployment benefits in all of them. All I and others like me want is a little help until we get back on our feet. It's insurance after all...

Should have kept the chair and saved the gas money.  Cost/Benefit analysis is your friend.

And then just threw in the towel.  I cannot believe what a freeloader this schlub is.  Everybody over there is all sympathy and hugs, but I say FIND SOMETHING TO DO FOR MONEY, YOU PARASITE.

I don't understand the mentality, if you have to get on your knees and scrub floors you do it, and if you need to get a 2nd job scrubbing floors you do it, none of us are OWED ANYTHING. I have sympathy for people going through a tough time but when is it enough? people collecting unemployment for 99 months? they never paid as much as they received by the system, and instead of whining you need to be grateful, but enough is enough.

I don't know about selfish but clearly this DUchebag makes the same bad decisions over and over again. If he were half black and president this behavior would be called "scary smart intelligence.'
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

I guess drug dealing isn't covered under unemployment insurance.  If he's only collected 1 week of UI, and worked for 30 years, why isn't he drawing it now?

If this DUmbass would simply think, he'd have it made in the shade. All he needs to do is wreck the borrowed car with the bad brakes, claim one of those priceless democrat back injuries, and sue the owner of the car.

If that was 'publishing,' I'd bet it just meant putting together promotional throwaways for one or two local clients that cut him loose when funds got tight, and he did nothing else to ever expand or diversify for the entire 30 alleged years.

Cancel your internet so you have an extra $30 a month... but you're probably leeching off your neighbor's unlocked Wi-Fi anyway.

Who the hell moves 26 times in six months?

Oh, and it must be the end of the f-ing world that you're not driving around in a 2011 vehicle, fresh off the assembly line.  You poor, poor thing.

You are selfish.  Play in traffic.

He has to pull around the corner once in awhile so the cops don't hassle him about being in the same spot to long. :-)

I drive around in a 15 year old Honda. It has a 9 gallon tank and runs 2 weeks on a tank. At $2.90 a gallon just try and take it away from me.  :rotf: If I have need, I go rent a 2011 vehicle like I did just 2 weeks ago when I had to run up to Virginia because of a death in the family.

The difference is I have a job, ain't much of a job, I'm not to happy with it but I have a job.

Ooops, I meant 99 weeks. And how many of us have done jobs for low wage? I worked at a freaking answering service for minimum wage as a 2nd job for like 15 years.

He would have to offer the magazine for free, otherwise the other members at DU wouldn't subscribe to it.

That's what I was wonderin'! If he was self employed, then he's screwed! But I find it hard to believe he can't find a job in some printing establishment if he indeed was some kind of publisher. Unless of course, his idea of publishing is Microsoft Paint and a $100 ink jet printer.

Never mind! I think I figured it out!

4. Apples. Oranges. But, no, you are not selfish at all.
You paid into Unemployment "insurance." But, it is just insurance, after all, and the insurance companies have shown us what bullshit it actually is -- pay in forever but if you file a claim you're cancelled.

I feel for you, honestly. Your situation SUCKS, and no American should have to live like that. However, giving $700,000,000,000 to the people who caused your situation hardly seems like an equitable solution to your crisis. THEY should be forced to pay for your insurance benefits, not just me and the millions of other Americans who will be stuck with the bill for literally the rest of our lives, and the lives of generations to come. Too bad we don't have a President who understands that.

I wish you all the luck in the world. I have a friend in a similar situation, though admittedly not quite as dire sounding. She's been out of work for over 2 years now and panicked. Next step is moving into her parents' basement -- because her unemployed brother has already moved into the guest room. This can't continue. Too many like you and my friend are being devastated through no fault of their own and our government has abandoned its citizens. It's a very sad time we live in.

I am guessing since I never have ice IN my car in cold weather, that it has something to do with the humidity in the car freezing.  That humidity is caused by breathing.  Stop breathing, problem solved.   :whatever:
