Tea Party group asks Palin to run for RNC chairwoman

Tea Party Nation, a national Tea Party group, is asking Sarah Palin to run for Republican National Committee chairwoman.

Judson Phillips, founder of the group, posted a letter on TPN's website that he said he plans to send to the former Alaska governor. In it, he asks her to take on "the establishment" and run for the chairmanship of the Republican Party.

"We need you as Chairman of the RNC. You have shown in the past no hesitation to take on the establishment. You did it in Alaska. If we end up with establishment control of the GOP and their support for an establishment candidate in 2012, Obama and the socialists will have won," he writes.

He also criticized RNC Chairman Michael Steele's spending habits — spending is a major issue for the Tea Party movement.

Boy I hope so.  Had lunch with a friend Saturday and he mentioned her name and I told him that heading the RNC would be a perfect job for her.

She shot the idea down already.  I'm just guessing, but I think she might be to restrained by political etiquette in that position.  As a private citizen she can really unload on people in ways that the Chair of the RNC couldn't do.

I actually hope not in this instance. She's conservative, yes. That's all well and good. However, she showed us, and continues to show us that it's not about right, and left. Republican and Democrat. It's about people...period. I say let Sarah be Sarah. She may need some guidence through the campaign trail as any incumbant would, but let her do her thing.

I just don't like the labeling, because I honestly, and truly believe that both parties strictly by themselves, by their book are what's wrong with this country right now...partially.

(Still haven't changed my stance about leftists totally being abolished/somehow disappearing though.)

And if Sarah runs and loses (for anything), liberals will proclaim it and shout from the rooftops that it was a consensus on conservatism.  They are as predictable as they are ignorant.  Of course, we all saw how well they treated President Bush.  They're bound and determined to be as childish and foolish as humanly possible while still claiming they have the moral high ground because everyone supports them.

If thats the clarion call, I can definitely get behind that and whoever takes the chair on those grounds.

Nice to hear it from somebody else within the establishment for a change.

I'd love to see that myself, all the investment the press has made demonizing her would not just be wasted, but turned to the GOP's advantage...plus she is a dynamic, extroverted Libertarian/Social Conservative, much closer to my own beliefs than Steele, who was none of the above, just a Fiscal Conservative with essentially Liberal social and individual-liberty beliefs.  She is made for this job, I hope the GOP has the wisdom to offer it to her.

I'd remarked on this very issue a week or so ago - completely agree that the gig should be hers. She's a galvanizing force and much more personable than Steele ever thought about being.

If she were to chair the RNC, entire RIVERS of money would flow into Republican coffers and war chests.

I think your point that she is a "galvanizing force" is right on target.

The GOP is going to need someone formidable and forceable in terms of waking up the party and making them ALL sit up and pay attention. Sarah can do that.

It would also take her out of the running for President. At this point in time, I don't think there is enough support for her to become president, and I would hate to see her win the nomination with no chance of winning. That would be a lose/lose situation, and I think would have a negative effect on future runs, when I think she would have a better chance of winning. 10 years from now, she will still be quite young, her children older, and hopefully by then, the media will have found someone else to negatively focus their attention.

 A friend of mine also used the word galvanizing to describe her.  Unfortunately he said that if she ran for president she would galvanize the democrats as well and I am not so sure he is not right.

As long as the eventual republican nominee understands the impact of the Tea Party libertarian-conservative movement, and does not actively set himself against its agenda (which I see out of the Boehner camp), then I can see how having Sarah would be an excellent chairman. Not only would money flow in, but the overall direction of the party membership's funds would be directed toward the proper, constitutional positions of the American public.

But I'll be frank: Sarah Palin is the first ICONIC conservative we have had since Reagan. At this point, I would like to see her as a presidential candidate in '12, and would consider any other conventional RINO candidate to be a huge negative as we have to roll BACK damage, not just prevent anything further.
