But he is gearing up for battle.

One big clue: When West arrived in Washington three weeks ago for orientation for new members of Congress, he wasn't toting a high-end Gucci briefcase. As he worked the halls of Congress, West carried his camouflage military helmet bag, replete with patches from every unit he served with.

West is 100 percent military. His 22-year career in the Army — not counting his time in high school ROTC or his later work as a military contractor in Afghanistan — explains much about the 49-year-old congressman-elect.

How will he handle himself as a congressman?

I'd say that West earned his clearance through valid background checks, much I did when I was in the Navy.  Obama was granted his clearance through Affirmative Action.

Allen West is awesome. The reason the DUmmies/liberals hate him, is because they are all half a man West is and West is pro-military. THANK GOD!

IIRC, if the 80s definition of secret clearances is still holding, then West would have a higher clearance.  As president there is no clearance level needed, you are the president.  I also recall several articles stating that as a US senator Obama could not get higher than Secret.

I'd be shocked if President Obama could get higher than a Secret (I'd be surprised at even a Secret), given that he has admitted to cocaine use.
