Helen Thomas says Zionists control U.S. foreign policy (and the WH, Hollywood and Wall Street)

DETROIT | Helen Thomas said Thursday that she stands by her comments about Israel she made earlier this year that led to her resignation as a national columnist.

And she went further, saying that Zionists control U.S. foreign policy and other institutions. The local Jewish community condemned her remarks.

In an interview, Thomas, 90, said that criticizing Israel led to her resignation and ostracism in Washington.

“I can call a president of the United States anything in the book, but I can’t touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank,” Thomas said. “No American would tolerate that — white-only roads.”

Thomas, a longtime White House correspondent who grew up in Detroit as the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, was in Dearborn for a workshop on anti-Arab bias.

In a speech inside a center in Dearborn, she talked about “the whole question of money involved in politics.”

“Congress, the White House and Hollywood, Wall Street are owned by the Zionists. No question, in my opinion,” she said. “They put their money where their mouth is. We’re being pushed into a wrong direction in every way.”

I've always found the far-left (note, FAR left, not mainstream or liberal left) tendency to demonize Israel to be dancing very closely on the edge of anti-Semitism, but I didn't want to believe Helen Thomas would cross that line. I've respected her for a long time.

I wonder if her age has something to do with it. I've known a few people who have taken a sharp turn into nasty bigotry as they've gotten older - people who NEVER exhibited any signs of visible bigotry before. So maybe the bigotry was always there, and they were just smart enough to keep it under wraps until senility or a general "I don't give a shit what anyone thinks anymore" attitude finally served to unmask it, or maybe they just gradually became more paranoid and suspicious as their mental state deteriorated. I don't know, but it makes me sad.

Now- if I don't like Barry because I think he's a worthless piece of commie shit, who lied his way into office with the help of the leftist media, I am obviously racist. BUT- saying the zionists run the world isn't?

And no, by supporting what Helen said does not mean I hate Jews. It's amazing how much our press and government is controlled by Israel. No one can even speak out because they will ALWAYS be branded as Jew hatrers. By that fact alone proves how much we are controlled by Israel.

Why they are fighting over a bunch of rock-covered land is crazy. We've spent hundreds of billions directly, and if you count the wars and military spending, I'm sure it rises into the trillions. I thought it would be much cheaper if we just moved every Israeli to Nevada and gave them half the state. The terrains would remind them of 'home' and they wouldn't be under constant attack or threats of attack. It would be a win-win situation and we would save enormous amounts of money. And since Israelis would be citizens of the US they would turn from being a drain on our resources to being tax paying citizens. To top off the deal we could offer them all free tickets to Vegas shows and maybe even autographed 8x10 photos of Wayne Newton.

Of course this 'plan' would mean they would have to leave all their beloved religious shrines behind. But I can't imagine any real or sane 'god' wanting people fighting and killing each other over rock covered land and religious shrines built by men. And it would virtually end a lot of the hatred from every Middle Eastern country ran by Muslims.

Let the anti-Semite accusations commence!

 They are already 'concentrated' in their tiny country. Your post just revels how no matter what is written about Israel it will always be boiled down to things like buzzwords and insinuations that the messenger hates Jews. As far as a drain on resources, how can you argue that Israel has not been a huge drain on US taxpayers? We have been sending Israel billions every year in 'loans' that do not have to ever be paid back. I've heard one right winger after another advocating total destruction of surrounding Muslim countries. I've heard them saying we should even use nuclear weapons against any of Israel's enemies.

I just don't understand the fascination with Israel and all that biblical stuff. How many wars and how many dead people will it take to satisfy those who support using any and all military options to protect Israel? It's insanity all born out of religion. It would be far wiser for all involved to just move them all here so they could live in peace. I dont know what 'god' would want people to constantly kill each other in his name. It's madness. And no 'loving' god would want people fighting over a bunch of rocks.

 What I said is not patently false. Almost everything we do in the middle east is based on the wishes/interests of Israel. Even when Israel commits atrocities no one in the US can seriously condemn them. It's almost taboo and a political death sentence to any US politician to speak out against Israel. Israel us NOT a perfect country or has a perfect record. They killed a lot of Americans on the US Liberty.

Of course religion plays a part in every decision regarding Israel. It is at the core of our foreign policy with Israel and the Middle East. I find that to be very unhealthy and dangerous. It certainly won't ever lead to any peace in that area.

Not a word of what I said was untrue or hateful. You prove my point. Anyone who says anything about Israel that isn't cheerleading is condemned exactly as you are condemning me. It sounds like you should try to look inward to try to understand why you respond with accusations of bigotry at the mere mention of Israel in a non-cheerleading tone.

Not one US officeholder can speak out against Israel without being savagely attacked. And any such person will most certainly be targeted for defeat. The US press will never criticize Israel to any meaningful degree as the worldwide media does around the world. To suggest Israel is covered by the media objectively in the US is absolutely ludicrous.

And if I am a bigot then why would I care so much about the safety of all Israelis to the point where I would want them to be my neighbors? Are you opposed to Israelis living in peace and safety?

The reality is...out of all the races and nationalities throughout the world and throughout time, the Israelis have been prosecuted, murdered, and raped more than anyone else. The fact is that Israel (with the support of our government) has gotten away with mass murder. And Washington and Wall Street condone and encourage it.
