WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama says FIFA made the "wrong decision" in awarding the 2022 World Cup to Qatar over the United States.

The U.S. Soccer Federation spent millions of dollars on its bid. Former President Bill Clinton was highly involved in the process and participated in the closing

Thank the gods that this didn't come here. It was bad enough having all the Euro-wannabes piling on that bandwagon when it was in another country and having this boring thing forced on me from every damn media outlet and coworkers for weeks.

Thank you Qatar, thank you thank you!

Can you imagine the crime and violence it would bring with it?

No thanks, Obama.

Why would any country want this thing, then?

Your question is rhetorical, I'm certain, but I'll point out that for whatever reason that sport is probably the world's favorite, from a fan perspective at least.

I don't understand it, but that's the way it is. Assemble a lot of fans and a lot of teams and television and most of Europe and South America, and you've got a shitload of money to deal with.

Everybody understands money.

Money, yes--zero-zero ties, no. Anything that can end in a zero-zero tie is not a sport. It's a gym class.

Personally, I'd love to see more bloodletting in the rugby style - I mean, those pro football players are pussies because they've got all those pads and all those trainers and all that tape, not to mention titanium jockstraps and cups to keep the junk intact.

Give me bloodletting, and I'll give you a zero-zero score.

It's a win-win all the way around.  :-)

Oh, except for the guy who's bleeding on the field.   :whistling:

WILMINGTON, DE—As the 2010 World Cup approaches, friends, family, and coworkers of 32-year-old Brad Janovich are growing less tolerant of the exuberant behavior of the United States' lone soccer fan.

"Who's got World Cup fever?" Janovich asked his officemates at Credit Solutions Friday, failing to notice their silent stares as he reported for work clad in the sole Team USA jersey sold this year. "I do! I've got World Cup fever!"

"Check out this World Cup wall chart I just bought," added Janovich, who is the only American citizen currently aware that the World Cup begins June 11.

According to sources only peripherally aware of the World Cup, Janovich's infuriating behavior first became apparent during a Super Bowl viewing party last February when he repeatedly used the phrase "American football" to describe the action on the field. In recent weeks, Janovich has also begun referring to the supposed suspense involved in choosing the players for the U.S. "side," and has struck up several extended but one-sided conversations concerning figures such as "Kaka" and "Ronaldinho," generally mystifying and alienating everyone he has come into contact with.

There's a reason why patriotism is considered a conservative value. Watch a Tea Party rally and you'll see people proudly raising the American flag and showing pride in U.S. heroes such as Thomas Jefferson. Watch an OWS rally and you'll see people burning the American flag while showing pride in communist heroes such as Che Guevera. --Bob, from some news site
