So, hippie liberals accusing a hippie liberal of stealing? Color me unimpressed.
Not really, we are warned and have been warned for years to check our receipt.
One store in our area offered a --free grocery cart if anyone found a mistake over $5.00 on their bill.
I had bought a big $15.00 cake for work and as I was about to leave the store I stopped and wondered why my bill was so high. I had also stocked up on meat and whatever and the total bill was about $180.00.
Darn I turned around and went to the manager and after we both checked the receipt found I had been charged for 2 cakes not one.---Bingo---The whole thing was free!! Had I left the store this would not have happend, one must find the problem while still on the premises.
It is so easy for a checkout person to accidentally run a product over the scanner twice without realising it if distracted.
Also at times sale items have not been placed in the store computers, and then there is the problem of the clerk just handing you your change in a lump sum and not counting it out. There are 10 carts behind you and to take the time to check your change is a hold up for the others. So if a dishonest clerk stiffs every 4 th person a dollar in change, at the end of the day in a busy supermarket they may have made an extra $150.00 bucks.
This is a valid complaint, at one time when offering a credit card, after it was swiped there was a carbon of it and the carbon was torn off and thrown in a trash bucket under the counter. ----We were told to ask for the carbon copy but few did and and all those copy's of our credit cards ended up in the hands of people just learning how to steal the numbers.
With the holidays here and lines of folk in front of each cash register, now more then ever we have to check our receipts, all the to do and what not, especially if buying small but expensive items just may not make it into your shopping bag.----Where does it go, on the floor or picked up by a passing stranger while you are watching the price of items add up on the customer screen .
DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT leave the store before checking that receipt and the items you bought. Keep in mind that people do make mistakes, if you see a sign that bread makers are $60.00 off the regular price, the store computer may not have gotten the message and you will be charged full price.
