The White House says President Barack Obama has received 12 stitches in his lip after being hit during a pick up basketball game.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs says the president was inadvertently struck by someone's elbow Friday.

The president received the stitches in the doctor's office on the ground floor of the White House. Obama had traveled to Fort McNair with a group of family and friends for an early morning game of basketball.

Obama is a sports fan, roots for his hometown Chicago teams and has often gone golfing in addition to playing basketball.

When I saw this on the national news I was thinking of the poor bastard that did it to him. Can you imagine the secret service and their reaction? POTUS is bleeding!!! Shoot the guy!!!

Then we got 12 stitches in his lip. Wow. First thing I thought was big lips... except he ain't got big lips. Must have been one hell of an elbow! I'd have figured if there was gonna be 12 stitches involved it would have to have been one of his ears.  :-)

If that's the case then why was he playing on the ratty court they have at Ft. McNair?

Showed his busted lip on TV this morning....what a damn cry baby.
It was almost nothing...I couldn't see where in the world the doctor put 12 stitches....must have sewed the fly on his underwear shut because he didn't need it.
