It's Thanksgiving on Democratic Underground. What are you thankful for?

Here are a few things I'm thankful for today:

My wife and two boys.

My mother and step-father. My brother and sisters and their spouses. My in-laws. My neices and nephews. My dog.

Good friends and friendly neighbors.

Democratic Underground. And all the great people that come here to read or post. And donors. And moderators. And EarlG and Elad.

President Obama.

Coffee.

NPR and The New York Times.

Disposable diapers.

J. K. Rowling, George R. R. Martin, Neil Gaiman.

Richard Dawkins, Jared Diamond, Robert Wright, Steven Pinker.

AdSense.

Boardwalk Empire.

PBS Sprout On-Demand.

The National Zoo.

Isn't being grateful for Skins's island and its inhabitants similar with being grateful for the National Zoo?

10. What am I thankful for, my dear Skinner?

So many things...

My husband.

My two daughters, and their husbands.

My three grandchildren! There is nothing quite like seeing your babies having their own...

DU, and all the wonderful friends I have made here, and all the incredibly important things I have learned here!

My poetry.

The great blue state of California, my home.

President Obama.

My new scanner.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Why would the CalPig primitive be grateful for her poetry?

I'm really trying to figure that out; franksolich writes, but franksolich isn't grateful FOR something he creates.

He is however, grateful for those who read it.

So what does the CalPig mean here, exactly?

I always take care to do that, madam, much care.

But right now, I'm public-relationing her, boosting her, for top primitive, and so have to let all the silliness show.

I learned something new today.  I learned that Skins is married and has actually fathered children???  I guess that's a Christmas miracle.

Actually, my fellow alum Skins has been married for a long time, more than ten years, to a woman who was or is a congressional staffer on Capitol Hill.  With the (R)s taking over the House, and the Dems losing seats in the Senate, it's reasonable to assume she's out of a job again.

Believe it or not, my fellow alum was once press secretary for a big Dem--I dunno which one, but he did work for Biden, Wyden, Bonoir, and one of the Levin brothers.

He lost his last job, with Bonoir, in 2000, when that congressman from Michigan ran in the Dem primary for governor of that state, and lost to the Graham cracker.  But not to worry, as by then Skins had managed to carefully cultivate connections, and was hired by establishment Dems to set up Skins's island.

I believe it was taken from a cartoon character, a school principal, in some popular television series.

From even before he landed on Skins's island and planted the flag, my fellow alum must have had a premonition of the role he would have to play.

Which, actually, he doesn't play very well; he's got to get some spine, some backbone, put in him.

Which is, of course, why there is such sensitivity to being labeled a DLC front organization.  One of the quickest ways to order pizza over there is to accuse Skinner and friends of being DLC.   :fuelfire:

WTF?

That's quite an odd thing to put on your "thankful" list for Thanksgiving.

I have to think a bit on this Evil.

Disposable diapers is one of the most underrated devices ---and given a bad name all at the same time.

Hospitals and Nursing homes put Chucks under all patients if they need them or not.  The cost to clean linen far outweighs the cost of Chucks.   Figure in the amount of water, detergent and anti bacterial stuff added, the money to heat the linen to close to boiling,  then add the man power to transport the linen to a laundry, the staff that washes and drys, folds and transports the linen from place to place--  At 10 cents each, much cheaper and more sanitary.

The fact that the older folk that use depends, or younger that may use some kind of pantie liner, or be unable to wear tampons,-----All these are in the line of disposable creations.

Baby's go without question are healthier when they do not use cloth diapers that may have bacteria on them.

How many gallons of water are used, how much detergent and bleach and fabric softener goes into city sewers if one uses cloth diapers.  How can we be sure all bacteria is killed even using super hot water.?

I have noticed that lately Doctors warn that these new strains of bacteria are surviving the laundry process.

For adults we are warned to wash underware separate from outer clothing,  and to use pantie guards, soon to come male underware guards for men.

Evil, have you ever used cloth diapers on a child, had to clean them every day, cannot leave the soiled diapers laying about for a day or so.  So you rinse out 6 or more diapers a day, get off all eyeball sight of bacteria.?    Where does that Lord awful smell come from the diaper pail come from if it is not bacteria building in there for 24 hours.??

I have to agree that the disposable diapers and their cousins have to have cut down on disease---But what about the land fills that have disposable plastic drinking bottles---??????
