Yes "socialism" works... but it does in a mixed economy... where there are heavy regulations and things like living wages and all that. I suggest you read Adam Smith, who got it... not those who claim to know the holy book but never read it. In fact Consumerism is not Capitalism nor is our emphasis on Monopolies,

North Korea is a Stalinist total-collective state where the individual is totally subjected to and controlled by the communist party. The people starve to death because the party determines where the products of labor (including food) are distributed, and most of it goes to the north's bloated military and the party leadership. It gets worse, lurking DUmmies. In a collective system, every person is a burden on the whole and those who do not produce at least as much as they consume or murdered or gulaged.

Of all variants of Marxism, Stalinism is the most tyrannical and least sustainable. This is why the country blackmails its neighbors into providing aid.
