Survey shows well-off more likely to be on the Web

A new survey from Pew's Internet and American Life project lends support to the notion of the "digital divide" by showing that higher-income households are significantly more likely to rely on the Web.

Clearly Pew did not survey any DU members.

There are a high number of the well-to-do on Skin's Island.  Most of them don't like to flaunt it by talking about their multiple cruises.

BS, Thundley, as long as people have a roof over their head even the poorest will have a PC and Cable for their stolen wide screen TV.

A small town in NC. called Roxabell has a large number of folks that are considered seasonal workers.  Poor is a relative term but 12 years ago the average income not including welfare was about $14,000 a year.

The State has a program for the school children of these folks that sets the family's up with PC's and internet service free.   The program seems to work, kids learn to read and write much faster then the old Run Spot Run method.

Hand eye coordination and even math games ----the kids in most cases do not even realise they are learning---it becomes a game to them.

When the kids are in school, the perhaps out of work parents, use the PC and they also benefit from sharpening up their reading skills, and or going to free classes to get their GED.
