My plant was just notified that we are going to have to create a space where women can go for breastfeeding purposes.
We have only one woman that I'm aware of who might be breastfeeding at this time. But apparently this "rule" is some sort of federal requirement (I've not researched it yet, so no flaming, please); or, there's a better than even chance that it's a corporate requirement (which is non-funded, of course).
This space cannot be a designated restroom, evidently, and it's got to be private.
Of course, breast pumping would be the likely use for this room as women would not have their babies in this particular workplace.
We had one worker that used a breast pump and stored her milk in the QC refedg..
I was horrified that she had to do this procedure in the common locker room and toilet stalls
There were empty offices the company could have allowed her to use.
Now there was a male worker with a colostomy bag that had to be changed a couple times a day and the company allowed him to use the empty Nurses Office. He did not have to use the locker room or a toilet stall---unsanitary they said.
Something about breast feeding that riles people up. The company's that make formulae and baby bottles have convinced us that there is something Unnatural about this act and offensive to others.
Now this gets me on a roll--duck and cover.
From the mouths of Doctors who served in VN I have been told that the black market took off convincing woman to buy baby bottles and formulae ----result was that the incidences of infant death sky rocketed as the woman could not sterilize the bottles, had no clean source of water , or refrigeration for liquid formulae.
In the town Sparky lives in a young mother went to a town park with her baby, sat in an area she thought was private and after covering both baby and her self began to feed her child. Along comes a woman from hell sees the baby's feet sticking out and begins to rant at the woman to get her perverted butt out of the park.
People near by that had not even noticed the mother, saw this crazy lady who looked as if she was going to assult the mother and baby.
They called the police and guess what, the mother was ejected from the park and the woman that had verbally assaulted her and child was allowed to stay.
People are nuts, before you know it a father changing his daughters diaper in a closed car will be called a pervert.
Rant over---for now, damn this stuff gets my goat.
