Have you ever met a DUmbass you would want to help?
« on: November 24, 2010, 07:02:21 AM »
Politics aside and WITHOUT MENTIONING NAMES...

Have you ever met a DUmmy via your mole or whatnot and found yourself saying, "They got dealt a shitty hand of cards and this isn't their fault; it'd break anybody." i.e. serious medical issue or whatnot.

If so could you ever find yourself setting aside politics to be a support, even if only a moral support, to that person?

I think my contempt for liberals is near-legend but sometimes my bunnianity gets the better of me.

I'd have no problem with it.  I do it quite often for a friend of mine.  While I don't believe she has a DU name, she certainly fits the mold.

I live in MA.  I have family and good friends who are uber-liberal, but I love them dearly.

Not with a mole at DU but on a board I've been going to for years, I've helped a couple progressives when they were going through a hard time.

Kind of wish we could help them all.  Help them get over their bitterness, anger and hate.  Help them understand that they do have the power to help themselves.  They can take more control of their own lives, the government is not the only solution.

I post on a board with some and I help where I can, but I pretty much stay out of discussions on politics.

Sure and as long as they wanted to help themselves too.
Now if they want to sit around and fuss not so much.

That is kind of a conundrum as a shrill DUmmy won`t likely be able to do that.

Sure, I know one IRL actually.  Basically a nice person, serious problems, and a whack political outlook, but I kind of understand how she came by it.  Moral support only, it would be in her nature to become dependent on any more-material kind.

I know a couple of others who might well be DUers, one is rather elderly and was thoroughly indoctrinated in the 'The Great Society' and its supporting propaganda in her education as a young adult, and then worked in education all her life, so she never had to leave the ideological bubble, but she's actually a pretty self-reliant person who just has very stupid political beliefs, whose friendship I value.

No one who posts regularly in the political forums, though I'd help anyone in a real emergency out of common decency.

There have been a couple in their Lounge that I've posted advice or moral support to.

I would help if they needed the help. I tend to put politics on hold when it comes to someone who is sincerely in head of help. A better question would be "would they accept the help?" Remember these are the same people who'll throw a relative under a bus if they said something even remotely positive about a conservative.

That is impossible to say, mostly because they are ALL liars or will at least embellish any story to make a political point. And I WILL name names, because some of those assholes are psychotic and helping them would mean locking them up. Like Taverner, Stinky the Clown, NLLOOHI or whatever (Don), and a few others I'm forgetting.

Like helping people move, I will help DUmpmonkeys one time every seven years. It has been my experience that liberal personalities will get themselves into the same trouble over and over.  Helping them out more than once is just enabling their behavior and does them no real long term help.

There are a few over there that I came to like and respect. I consider myself friends with a small group of people there, and they aren't crazy or as crazy as many over there. I would help them out in a heartbeat.

But most people there can shove it.

It really depends on the type of help, and it depends on what kind of DUmmy they are (see the post about digging up Reagan's rotting corpse).

Moral support and advice?  Sure, only if asked.  Monetary?  Very carefully.  I had a friend, though not overtly political, I knew what her background was and it = Democrat.  She needed just $300 to meet the tuition bill for her later-in-life associates degree.  I was glad to help, and she paid it back.
Have a DUmmy BIL who was the classic case, I've mentioned him before, living in his car, drinking & gambling any money he did happen to scratch up.  We said NO NO NO, causing a family feud.  Anyway, he seems to have pulled his shit together, believe it or not.

It depends on the Primitive - those who are just hateful balls-o-crap would get nothing from me, but there are a few who seem to be genuinely downtrodden. Those few I would help if asked.

I can count those few primitives on one hand.

I live in Dumbass heaven and work as a service tech for a heating company here in the NORTHEAST! I am called out to their house at all hours of the day and night in the freezing cold, I am talking about below 0 weather where your pipes and ass will freeze in hours! I always ask them "you were waiting for me?' Whats your back up plan? They never have one! Then I explain I live here too and see this shit on a daily basis and you really should have a few alternatives to heat your home. CAUSE YOU LIVE IN THE NORTHEAST!!! NO they wait for me to rescue them year after year, frozen pipes and motel rooms. They really are dumbasses!!! Ya know what I tell them? Hey its always warm at my house but you aren't welcome!!

Damn. I'm glad I've never had to rely on A-Hole repairmen.   :-)  I've replaced the gas valve, thermocouple, blower motor and thermostat on our furnace, and I've never had training.   (I did help my dad do lots of things around the house and was an EM in the navy. )

An" A-Hole repairmen"?  That's the kind of shit talk I live for!  "sorry asshole your on your own good luck"  Your not the kind of guy that has all the parts lying on the floor and says I know this and that? But I can't get it running? I did this and that but I failed and called you? I love them!

I was just giving you a hard time about being an A-Hole repairman, But I haven't found any plumbing/heating or electrical problem yet that I haven't handled. Being careful and taking pictures while disassembling things is very helpful. I had our furnace completely torn apart this summer for cleaning and it's working great.
