Are they really stupid? My conversation with a convenience store clerk
      

I'll drop into one or another of the neighborhood convenience stores from time to time. The places have fairly stable staffing, so after a number of years the faces are familiar. I try to give the clerks a bit of pleasant conversation, when there's no line. I wouldn't want the job: on your feet the whole shift behind the counter, with the constant possibility that some jackass will pull a stickup for $50

So today I grab a gallon of milk. Friendly older clerk, I've seen him carry on courteous chat with all sorts of folk. Place is pretty empty, and he for no immediately obvious reason starts to tell me he likes to read. Says he cancelled his cable early in the year and now likes spending every spare minute with a book. We chat about the library and the booksellers. Turns out he has a little network of customers he bookswaps with. I never would have pegged him as a reader -- my stereotype. I'll have to see if I have something on the shelf I'm willing to hand over to him

He keeps talking to him, he's going to find his low-skill low-pay proto-comrade is a retired businessman with a degree or two and a retirement plan worth six figures a year, who got bored around the house and started working at the stop'n'shop for the chance to meet new people.  And is a Rethug Neocon Bushbot Capitalist Pig etc etc etc to boot!

WOW! why would someone think that a person who wasn't a white collar worker wasn't intelligent? I never thought that or stereotyped someone because of the job they did.

8. my cousin owns a stop-n-rob in da hood and he has three advanced degrees he just makes more money selling single cigarettes, lotto tix, and malt liquor than he did as an accountant or engineer. Thanks to the store he lives in the most prestigious gated community in town. There's a lot of money in exploitation, er I mean convenience stores.

Well when you don't value hard work like the goons do, if someone is doing manual labor they must be stupid. How many times have we seen DUmmies post that they won't do a job beneath them?

Anyway, over at the DUmp the other day, some dummie was frothing, "Glenn Beck thinks he's an economist??  He only has a high school degree!  What credentials does he have as an economist????/!!!!!1111" 

He's been reading and reading and reading.  I think anybody could have a self-taught college degree just by devouring books and discussing them with others.  The more I think of it, the more offended I am by the OP.  Just because DUmmies like to be lazy, and to be fed their talking points like zombies, doesn't mean that everybody in all walks of life don't yearn for knowledge.

I see "low skill" workers sitting reading a book on their break all the time. And their lips aren't even moving!
