Proof of Inflation (with pictures)

I decided to take my camera with me to snap pictures of foods that almost all of us purchase on a regular basis.  Feel free to add your own.  I'm tired of hearing people say inflation isn't happening.  Let's see how much these prices change with every shopping trip.

I forgot to snap the milk price, but it was $2.69 a gallon.  Last time we purchase milk, it was $2.29 a gallon.

I checked out the consumer price index, and I don't think they include food.  I think different stores will have different prices for the same item.  Wal-Mart has cheap frozen dinners (Banquet) for 88 cents while Kroger sells them for at least a dollar, maybe more.  You would have to go to the same store repeatedly to gather any reliable data.

I hate the Kroger here because the exits are impossible to navigate through traffic.

We go to Albertson's often, so I started tracking prices there.  The ham we bought last year for Thanksgiving was $24.  We paid $9 for it last year.  -sigh-

We are going to see if Walmart has ham for less.  I'm not spending $24 on a freaking ham.

WOW! $5.50 for a box of Honey Nut Cheerios?! :o :o
I paid $4 for a box of Crispix last week. Sugar is supposed to be going up really high as well.

The biggest problem I see is where people are shopping. I never step into a Safeway, Holiday, Save Mart, ect.. unless I absolutely have to.

I hit the Wonder Bread outlet (3 loves of Home Pride Wheat for 3 bucks), 99 cent store, Grocery Outlet or Winco.

Our Dollar Tree has some food, but not a whole lot.  We do purchase what we can there.  I don't think we have many other stores like the ones you mentioned.  In my hometown, we had a Hostess outlet store.  That place was awesome. 

We have Walmart, Sam's Club, Albertson's, and Smith's in close vicinity to us.  Since it's the holidays, I don't spend much time at Walmart.  The lines are way too long and everyone there is cranky.

I had to go there last night.  I needed a child's bday gift, for Sat am, and thought that last night would be the best time to go.  Given the other choices of this week.  I was one of those cranky people.  I thought I was going to lose it.  It was hell.  I was so pissed, I even went to the 20 and less, when I had 21.  I NEVER do that.  I thought I was going to get busted by the Walmart Police.  Went home and took a long hot shower.  That place gets nasty.

$2.49 for a dozen eggs?  WTF are they, golden goose eggs?

I typically pay about $1.39-1.59 depending upon size.  Bread goes for $2.25-3.00 for the "special" bread, but the store regular stuff can still be had for under $1.25/loaf.  Milk here isn't cheap, though.  $2.89 a gallon for the store brands, and up to $4/gal for the "dairy" brands like Hood.

But yeah, meat is getting WAY out of hand.  Can't find chicken breasts for under $4/lb anymore.  Same with hamburger for under $3/lb.  Don't even get me started on steaks.

A lot of it has to do with corn Sparky. Corn is going up and up in price, I hear. The farmers use corn to feed the livestock and chickens, therefore passing the costs onto us, the consumers. Actually, about 4,000 items in the grocery market has some sort of corn or corn by product in them. :o

It's okay.  I'm also a cranky person when the stores are really busy.  Walmart has 20 lanes, but they only open two.  Even when they are really busy.  So that really pisses me off.

I like Kroger, but you get totally ass-raped if you don't have and use their shopper's card.

The 'Goods basket' they use for CPI pretty much is based on normal economic growth times, and completely fails to account for shifts in buying patterns and the kind of goods purchased that occur when times get tougher, so it tends to seriously lag the actual impact of inflation felt by consumers when the economy is bumping along the bottom instead of growing.

Damn! I can get a loaf of Mrs. Baird's bread for $1.79 just about anywhere here. I would have to search high and low for a $2 loaf.
